Ultimately it comes down to whether you think the punishment is more important or progress. Besides, the allies were only together because of the nazi Germany, so another war with the soviet union was very likely. It is not very wise to not use all the cards you can get.

Exactly, it is astounding what a state will do to keep the edge on its enemies. Nazi influence was definitely huge in the space program, which built it to where it is today. But did this type of secrecy pervade throughout the U.S. Intelligence? Or is this type of secrecy used today within our government?
