Nearly everyone has procrastinated at something in our lives whether it be homework, a project, studying, or chores. But what drives this perpetual waiting and how do we conquer it? Procrastination seems to start at a young age with very small tasks and work, usually related to school. This type of procrastination is usually attributed to laziness and sometimes this is true. Being physically, emotionally, or spiritually drained can also cause a lack of drive as well. But when it comes to work, activities, or habits that you want to start, you sometimes hesitate for a long time or do not even start to try to change in the first place. This type of procrastination stems from a long-standing emotional blockage. Procrastinators that hesitate to meet new people or trying new activities but want to change, need to address this cause of concern. Unfortunately, most procrastinators will procrastinate at fixing their procrastination! It is a self-fulfilling prophecy of hesitation, always afraid to start something new. This is why procrastination must be broken if it is fear-based. Procrastination based in laziness is much easier to fix (sometimes) and that usually involves changing the emotional state of ourselves as well.
Fear preventing change inflicts so many people and it is attributed to rejection from another, thinking they are going to fail or not be good at the activity, or just outright paralysis of performing the action because it is an unknown in your universe. This type of fear can be crippling to the type of potential that you have, so clearing it out of the way is a must. Most emotional blockages also come with their fair share of physical blockages such as stress, so shifting your mental state to more positive and uplifting thoughts is huge. Meditation, yoga, deep breathing exercises, and grounding yourself to the Earth will help to release negative thoughts.
Starting small is essential; you need to crawl before you walk. If you procrastinate but want to start working out, do not just go buy a gym pass all willy nilly. Try to do home exercises for at least a month, holding yourself to a schedule. If you are very weak-willed, just start off with 15 minute exercises each day for a week or two and increase your time. Once your able to trust yourself that you will always make room for your exercise, you can get a gym membership. Other things such as meeting new people or working can seem impossible but employ a similar tactic: just start small. If you want to meet new people, take small steps such as joining a group or activity that does not have rigorous requirements to be a part of and begin to interact with others. Volunteering is a cool way to meet others that are interested in helping others. Start volunteering a hour a week at a shelter or church or participate in fundraising events to start meeting new people. As your fear starts to slowly dwindle away, you will notice how much it affected every decision you've made and this new found freedom can lead to vast improvements in your outlook on life as well as give rise to many new relationships and work-related opportunities.
You hear some people say they regret not following their dreams or at least trying, whether it is due to a lack of resources, a lack of direction, or a paralysis of fear. It is important to never let this feeling occur. Never settle, always strive and have direction towards a goal that is worthy for you and others. Be wise and constantly take steps to achieve your feats. Conquering your fear is the first step.
Hello everyone, this was my first attempt at stream-of-consciousness style of writing. These represent significant thoughts that I have had in my life and in this narrative I am talking to myself. But I thought that maybe others have similar thoughts so I decided to make a post about the hesitation that we can all feel sometime, whether it is social anxiety, fear of rejection, or a lack of effort. I have come along way with my procrastination but I am far from perfect. 😅 Many times, I find myself pondering how to improve my self-perceived weaknesses and this is an example of how my thoughts go and I just found it kind of funny. It is so simple, yet I still feel that fear today, but I am stronger than it. And so are you. 😇 Namaste beautiful souls.
Good post I think you hit on some important points. Fear is perhaps the biggest limiting factor to the human race. Well…maybe fear and selfishness. We fear all kinds of things and don’t even realize it half the time. You must learn to face your fears but first you have to identify them. This speaks to your point that procrastination may be because of some fear you have but may not realize its a fear. Action overcomes fear every time, so take action.
Many of our fears stem from childhood events that we did not fully understand at the time however they were programmed into us and now reside in our subconscious. IMO you need to reprogram the subconscious because that is where your core beliefs reside. On way to do this is via affirmation. Here is a formula for doing that if anyone is interested:
Thank you for sharing, I agree with you on all your points. A significant portion of the population does not consider childhood events that they do not remember to affect them. These can be some of the most influential moments that help define a subconscious.
Ever seen this? https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/fearful-memories-passed-down/ - @longsilver is working on a full post on this. Funny how much synchronicity there is on this platform.
No I had not seen that but its very interesting. I think dna plays a major role as the article suggest. However I believe in reincarnation and I think it goes farther then just DNA. Animals are part of a group soul unlike Humans. Well humans are in a way but have individual identities but that's a whole other conversation. With animals its the 100 monkeys things. I am sure DNA plays big role also as I said. However with humans we have past life Karma that can cause these things also plus are childhood events.
There is a simple way to clear all this stuff if one is willing. Interestingly enough it was given to a born again type Christian guy and he thought it was just for "believers" although he is more open then many I still think he limited it to much. I immediately saw that it was for everyone. He calls it transformation prayer.
Basic premise is the events we experienced as children we did not understand so we have lies or partial lies that we believe about those events and when we encounter a similar event as adults it triggers us to react based on that original lie. we may not even remember the event. It then through a sequence of questions helps you revisit the memory and than asks if you will allow God to show you the truth of the situation. For non believers you could just say will you allow the truth to be shown to you, or someone of a different persuasion their deity or source or just god. Its the real meaning of the scripture "the truth will set you free." There are other modalities that do something similar another is called the "Emotion Code" I used that quite a bit and you can do it on yourself too. Anyway didn't mean to wax so philosophical lol... But yeah its time for the lights of the world to step up to their callings in my opinion so its good to see this stuff being discussed more and more.
Lol! Kryon? His name is popping up all over the place in my world!
LOL No not Kryon... Are you talking about the guy who claims to channel him Carrol something? Or the Greek Centaur? I am not big on channelers myself. I prefer the inner voice. I believe nothing unless my inner voice confirms it . I am a natural skeptic, however not perfect at hearing the inner voice over the ego or carnal man etc. like most.
If something resonates with me but is not confirmed by the inner voice I don't automatically dismiss it though either. I will put it on the shelf for the time being. It's a life long practice to learn the follow the inner voice and discern it from all the outside voices. Its usually the quiet one. The scriptures call it the still small voice, it is talked about in all the words scriptures and the ancient wisdom. Anyway there I go again lol.
I have been a life long student of the worlds scriptures and many esoteric writings etc. Not something many people know about me. And of course the topic often rubs people the wrong way. Even though I don't require agreement few can disagree without getting heated as you well know lol. So I don't usually engage unless someone is really interested and can maintains an amicable conversation because I am almost always guaranteed to say something that will challenge their paradigm lol.
OK, I mixed my people up. This is the guy I was thinking of. My neighbor used to see someone who studied under him:

Hey @donovan! I liked your writing ;) keep doing them! I also added a new word to my vocabulary, "procastination", I only knew "postponement". Thanks!
I'm glad that I could help ya learn a new word, your English literacy is amazing. Thank you for the read.
Great post.I enjoy the stream of consciousness. I also face procrastination. Chunking the activities into pieces helps. I like the idea of volunteering. That's good for any soul. Blessings
Some good thoughts here @donovan313; above all "fear is the mindkiller" as science-fiction author Frank Herbert wrote, almost 50 years ago.
As for stream-of-consciousness writing, it is not only very healing but often the most authentic we can be, and I commend you for that. Keep at it!
Bright Blessings!
It was kind of funny, I was just writing my thoughts down and I did not know how to format a "traditional" article out of it, so I left my thoughts there and posted it. It is extremely relieving to put your thoughts on "paper' (online). Thank you for your kind words and blessings.
This is real advice
Real advice to myself, following through is the key part. It is also the hardest sometimes. But I work at it everyday.

I would like to thank you for this post, it's quite brave to totally call yourself out, it makes you have to be accountable rather than stay in your comfort zone of procrastination. I've only lately realized I am a terrible procrastinator, sadly when I truthfully look over the years, I've been this way since I was a child ... like you I've been making some progress ... I feel trapped my fear has a smothering effect - I always assumed it was something else.
