Morning Wake Up Call

in #eagle8 years ago (edited)

Can you identify the cry of an eagle? Blessed to be staying on a lake in Northern Michigan for the next couple of months. The cacophony of birds begins around 4:45 AM, just before the sun begins to emerge. Over time I have learned to submit, enjoy the sounds and return to blessed slumber. However, there is one call that springs me out of bed every time. Fortunately, the occurrence is later in the morning hours a respectable 7:30-8:30 AM. This is the call of the Eagle, which can have a multitude of sounds. Most commonly aroused by a group of crows wildly calling trying to push the Eagle out of their territory, however a few loud screeches from the eagle and the crows disappear. He resides in a pine tree, approximately 40 ft up, so getting a good clear photo without distracting the beautiful creature is challenging. Here is the best I could do with my phone held up to the lens of the binoculars. I hope in your lives you experience the majestic eagle, so powerful and strong.

A few nights ago, was standing at the sink doing dishes when I recognized a very large bird flying straight across the lake toward the window. Sure enough, the white head of the mature eagle was evident. He approached with significant speed, straight at me. Excitedly, I alerted the rest of the family, who arrived in the knick of time to see it arc up and land in the top of the pine. My son is hoping someday it will choose to construct a nest in our pines. For now, I believe it is most content fishing the drop off's amazing clear waters and searching for easy prey of ducks to feast upon.
