I looked at steemit's Wikipedia page and it literally just mentions a steemit.com hack in 2016, and the 70% staff fired recently

I like what you said at the end, steem is seen by the rest of the crypto community, the same way bitcoin was seen by your average banker.

On July 14, 2016, Steemit announced on their website that they were hacked. The attack, according to them, has compromised about 260 accounts.
