The first time I visited the US, it really struck me how so many people wanted to be someone other than themselves. Some pretended to be more than they actually were, others strongly identified with some distant heritage that bore no relation to their day-to-day lives (it was a form of escapism) and others just acted as though they came from some other cultural background. I've lost count of how many Americans have told me that they're Irish or Italian. Anyway, your video reminded me of that.

Oh where should I start? The U.S in general has a very superficial culture. It's all about status, money, fame, etc for many people. People sell their souls for this stuff literally.

When the singer of The Presidents of The USA saw a huge billboard when he first arrived in LA with a picture of a woman advertising underwear. His first impression was that everyone wants to be naked and famous, which became the song "Naked And Famous".
