It truly is ridiculous when media forecasts large amounts of snow resulting in people panicking and running to buy stockpiles of groceries, bottled water, ice salt and supplies....
But what I find much worse is when meteorologists get it wrong and do not predict a snow or icestorm, causing highway shutdowns, students stuck at schools, passengers detained at airports and, sadly, avoidable fatalities.
A few years ago in January of 2014, it snowed a measly 2 inches of snow in Atlanta, Georgia. The city was totally unprepared and the resulting clusterfuck was unbelievable. The light snowfall in Georgia shut down its capital's traffic, creating an unspeakably horrible gridlock that lasted as long as 18 hours. You can read about it here, it's worth the click: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.buzzfeed.com/amphtml/alisonvingiano/incredible-images-of-atlanta-essentially-shutting-down-after
You make a valid point about being fortunate and blessed to have a roof over your head.
I for one love the snow! Take care -- great post and fantastic photos! @molometer❄
Yep the same story here every time it snows. Totally unprepared and as you say a complete screw up all around. Interesting article btw. We had a motorway which turned into a massive car park and people were stuck in the snow gridlocked for 18 hours? It's ridiculous that these things still happen. Poor planning.
