No More Food Waste
In the EU alone we have at least 88 million tonnes of food wasted every year with the associated costs estimated at 143 billion Euros (~163 billion US dollars). source
Since I was forced to become a chef and have seen some of the worst, I fight against this insanity on all stages and especially at home... We all can do lots of good to keep the food waste / food loss as little as possible to none at all...
- Plan your shopping & consider the budget you have (waste is expensive)
- Check the dates on what you buy... are you eating that before it out-dates?
- Store in the right environment and rotate properly
- Prepare and serve only what you need to "make everybody happy"
- May you freeze some cooked food for a short time
- AND USE up ALL your LEFTOVERS... you'll find some nice new recipes like that too!
About the loss in all the production levels, why on earth do we have to have "spotless" products. As like the apple with a brown dot is less delicious... actually it is often the opposite. The big food suppliers are not the only problem here, it's more the consumer asking for the "spotless" and the big business behind the whole scene, with all the big money involved who says: The customer is king! And this is only the beginning...
Sorry, but f#*k that. Today most customers are "idiots", not even capable of cooking the easiest meals... and the greedy business is giving them the ready-to-eat meal with all the sickening stuff in it, to save "them" more time for their life. And the multi-nationals are only interested in the big money, they don't give a damn about healthy humans. WTF! What is more important then some sane healthy food... nothing besides some clean fresh water. But that's a story for another time.
And just BTW - the word Diet comes from the ancient Greek word "diaitáō" which means "I treat, handle", or: way of living - mode of life... think about that for once!
Anyway, back to what I wanna share here. No Food Waste or as I call this start of my series: No Waste Of Taste! I will post some videos with what I managed to put together with the leftovers I'll find, or show you the how-to of some typical left-over-menus... If you have any questions about cooking or the menu you'll see, please ask in the comments. I'll be happy to answer or help you out on the DIY problems...
Todays No-Waste-Of-Taste-Menu is:
Swiss Cheese Fondue
A traditional left-over menu where all the little pieces and crusts of all the cheese in the house is transformed into a cheese sauce. For this video I bought all the cheese especially for a party night...
- Appenzeller Cheese
This is, in my opinion, by far the best fondue cheese you can use to make the most excellent "Fondue" ever. But you can use "any" kind of cheese to do it.
- Lots of Garlic
With the garlic you give this little plus you gonna love...
- Dry White Wine
Fendant, if you find some in your wine shop, to macerate the cheese. For 1 kg of cheese you'll need about 5 dl of wine. It works also with any other dry white wine. Here I used some Alsatian Riesling, which is slightly more fruity then Fendant...
You can dip the bread in it before you go for the cheese, but especially to mix in the...
to bind the boiling cheese into the creamy sauce you want.
Extras:
- Fondue Caquelon
- A typical alcohol stove
or similar heating source to keep the fondue "going" while eating...
- Lots of Bread
Preferable is the one day old brown bread...
Music you'll hear in the Video:
- Visions - by Edo Lee
For the free use of Edo Lee's music I'd like to give him a shout out: Please go and check his soundcloud for some more excellent music!
Now enjoy the left-over cooking. If ever you like sandwiches?! Come and check out @jaybird's #steemitsandwichcontest with lots of nice folks and the best no-waste-of-taste ideas you'll find on steemit...

It's true we have the same problem here in the US... maybe a little worst too. It's not only food either, working in the film business that's what drives me crazy.
My wife and I are very conscious to eating everything we get. One thing we like doing is making omelettes with yesterdays left overs, or soups 😁.
Nice music by the way in the video!
Nice post, keep it up
Thanks A Lot for your comment @senorcoconut. The Waste we produce as humans, in all sorts of ways, is mind bothering... agreed.
It's nice to hear that you care for your eating habits that way... Love it big time! For me I prefer leftovers and/or soups anyway... This gives me the challenge I want/need to find new creative menus for me and my loved ones...
Thanks Again for passing by and the follow...
CU soon again
D
Haha yea, I love that challenge too. I can keep a soup for days and it'll evolve into sonething new as I add fresh ingredients or new left overs.
Steem on D!
😁
That's the best... 😉 👍
Unfortunately it is the same problem here in the States. :( Your use of leftovers are always super creative. Looking forward to learning some new ideas from you.
😎 thanks for the flowers... I hope you can profit from the sometimes crazy ideas of mine. 😎
