VIMEO OPTION (In case Dtube doesn't load)
Colder weather is coming and today is hot so we went to the swimming hole maybe for the last time. Many of our creeks in the Ozark Mountains are spring fed with cool waters and are great for cooling off in the hot weather. You can see some pretty amazing wildlife and wildlife signs at the creeks and streams in the Ozark mountains. Beavers are frequently seen in the Ozarks and a fun to watch if you don't get too close. They are basically harmless but territorial and can try and intimidate you.
Spotting their sign is pretty easy if you know what to look for and we found a couple of what are called Beaver chews. These are sticks that have had the bark eaten off and then discarded by the beaver when finished.
It's just another day around the homestead. Happy to share with you!

Now THAT is the way to swim when it's hot! What does your son do with the beaver chews once he brings them back to the homestead?
usually loses them in the woods!
HAHA....Yeah I probably would have done that too!
Shared to show how to do it!
THANKS!
this is really cool, thank you for sharing this with us. Altho I already knew about the beaver and how they live, it's actually really cool to get to see what they do more than just knowing it from learning out of a book and research.
Thanks. Learning is fun!
you should have your son look into trying to match up beaver teeth marks, you can order a usb microscope almost anywhere online for cheap and he can take notes and learn from the chew marks :) it could be fun and educational for him!
A USB microscope...WOW! I will have to look into that! THANKS!
Now that's my kind of swimming hole! Nice place for family time. Interesting to find beaver chews. No dams but I think the water is probably not deep enough.
It's deeper than some creeks where I've pulled beaver out of. Over your head in a lot of places.
But no beaver dams? That's interesting...
wow
I was inspired by this astounding video.
