@davidpakman An easy way to describe distributed databases/the blockchain to a typical person I think is like this -> "It's a group of databases that are all synced together. It's like a "group chat" for databases, so when one database gets a new message, they all get the new message. A witness is a person hosting one of the group's databases." Edit it as you please, but that's the way I like to think about it.

I'll add one thing, which is that the witnesses are the only ones that have write access to the database. Everyone else has read access, and relies on the witnesses to write their transactions into the blockchain.
