Transparency, Honesty, Forgiveness, and Why it Sometimes Sucks to Meet Your Heroes

in #dtube6 years ago (edited)

It's my last night in Acapulco, and that's always a bit of a bummer. So many wonderful people, so much sunlight, and OH MY GOD the fruits!!! At the same time, I'm certainly looking forward to not sweating all the time, and my love @TheLynx is back in Portland and I'm excited to get back to her.

Anyway, that doesn't really have anything to do with the content of this video :-)

The main point of this video is the fact that while it can be absolutely great meeting and getting to know your heroes, connecting with the "movers & shakers" of the movement... sometimes it's a pretty terrible experience as well.

How do I reconcile sitting through a speech and being brought to tears, having my life entirely changed in 45 minutes... with slowly learning that the person who gave that speech actually doesn't live that message, in fact in many ways is the opposite of their message?

Obviously none of us are perfect, but if we aren't at least honest about our imperfections, are we really any different from politicians & corporate talking heads? This has really been up for me as I move forward with locking in speakers for @be-empowered. There are so many people who I know can give a powerful & inspiring session from that stage, but if they aren't actually living it then do I really want to give them a platform?

I do my best to be transparent about who I am, who I've been, my struggles, my healing, my mistakes, my vision for myself & the world, and what I'm doing to get there. If you've followed me for a while you know that a LOT of my content is actually me calling myself out, holding myself accountable, and sharing my stumbles and how I get through them, because that's real, and that's often the most valuable content I have to offer.

Sorry drama lovers, no names or even hints here, just the truth:

"Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits." ~ Matthew 7:15-16

As always, one of the main lenses I use to look at life is that of the Law of Attraction, and to my innerstanding, the words that we speak have no real value if they do not align with the truth of our inner state and our actions.

If you ever have a problem with me, if you feel that I wrong you in some way, or if you notice me doing/saying something that doesn't seem in alignment with who you know me to be, please let me know. We are all reflections for each other, and sometimes the eyes of another can see us more clearly than we see ourselves.

Namaste

can't help but wonder now which speech you might be ref to 😉 enjoyed that read!

Haha! Referring to far more than one speaker. Unfortunately, quite a few in the anarchist movement, the spiritual community, the activist circles, etc. It's everywhere.

I hear you brother. This is something that unfortunately seems to be happening more, but do not be disheartened, because as you so rightly said, for all those on show, there are many more who are humble and live there lives on the edges making and creating change. xx

I am usually pretty hard on myself when it comes to self analysis, and often times I am my own worst critic. With that being said, I do my best to practice what I preach, while recognizing that the way I live my life is still not 100% in line with what I want it to be, or even what I speak on. My philosophy is to make small improvements in my lifestyle each day when I notice things that I have the ability to improve, weather that be in terms of the environment, health, or the way I conduct my finances. It is hard when I am constantly surrounded by people who aren't even on the same wavelength with these kind of things, as there is not much inspiration to draw from (aside from my own, and maybe them being inspired by me, although that less common), and no one that would even notice me doing something wrong if I did (except for myself, and maybe you and @Alchemage). So on the note of people mentioning what other's can improve about themselves, what do you see as something I need to improve from your perspective?.. and don't say stop vaping and improve your exercise and eating habits, I am aware of and continuously working on those fronts.

I think the best advise I can offer you (and really myself as well) as sort of a criticism, would be to follow through with everything we are planning now. I feel like that has kind of been the theme lately for both of us (booklets, shirts, albums, events), and something we are both aware of and hearing the call for - its hard to find something to critique you on, you are so good at noticing faults yourself, the few that you occasionally have anyway (which I don't usually notice).

You and I are in similar positions. Hit me up on Discord if you ever care to vent. The thing about our beliefs is, those who are true voluntaryists can't have leaders, naturally we are the leaders. The difference also is true Voluntaryists who are leaders don't want a following it is not their motivation.

Thanks brother, I will quite likely take you up on that :-)

I've done a lot of pondering (and some writing) on the different between a leader and a ruler/boss/etc., starting with the idea that a leader (one who leads) is simply a term for those of who see the direction we want to move things and start walking, while waving at everyone else and letting them know where we're headed.

It is definitely a big indicator of the intentions someone has if they're focused on building a following and/or getting paid for their work or if they're trying to get the message out as much as possible (not that they're mutually exclusive events, but which one is the "ends" is quite important.

Blessings brother!

Good ideas can come from bad places.

Deep dude... I’d almost rather carry on with the fantasy 😅

Indeed the key is being true to yourself and constantly reviewing that you are. Sometimes people I think lose track of their goals and their love; and start taking it for granted. This either bring us crashing down or flying up too high and lapping up glory. Sadly this is human nature and to be on the other side of either hurts those around us in more ways than one. To cope we push people around us who challenge our crash or rise knowing they are right, but our journey needs reflection and regrouping before we invite that back 💯🐒

Haha :-P

Sorry, no soup for you!
