During our stay in the Franco-German Garden in Saarbrücken I was lucky to make an amazing video of a hummingbird flying from flower to flower drinking their nectar. "Say what, hummingbird? These birds don't live in Europe at all - are you kidding me?" Yes, I admit it, that was just a little joke: the filmed creature isn't a bird but a butterfly called 'hummingbird hawk-moth' (Macroglossum stellatarum). At first glance it closely resembles at colibris while hovering in the air. For drinking the nectar while flying it uses its long proboscis. Occasionally it already happened that surprised garden owners reported they had observed hummingbirds outdoors in Germany, whereas in reality they just had seen this mazing butterfly.
The 'hummingbird hawk-moth' is a diurnal migratory butterfly and able to fly distances of more than 3000 km within about two weeks. Whereas some time ago it normally visited us annually coming from the Mediterranean area, nowadays also exemplars hibernating in Middle Europe have been found.
This butterfly reaches a maximum speed of up to 80 km/h (and a frequency of 70 to 90 wing beats per second)!

Während unseres Aufenthalts im Deutsch-Französischen Garten in Saarbrücken gelang mir die faszinierende Aufnahme eines Kolibris, der von Blüte zu Blüte flog, um sich am Nektar zu laben. "Moment mal, Kolibri? Die kommen doch gar nicht in Europa vor, du willst uns wohl veräppeln?" Ja, ich gebe es zu - war nur ein kleiner Scherz: Es handelt sich bei der von mir gefilmten Kreatur nicht um einen Vogel, sondern das 'Taubenschwänzchen' (Macroglossum stellatarum), das auf den ersten Blick, vor einer Blüte in der Luft 'stehend', einem Kolibri täuschend ähnlich sieht. Zum Trinken des Nektars während des Fluges nutzt es seinen langen Saugrüssel. Des Öfteren wurde bereits von erstaunten Gartenbesitzern vermeldet, sie hätten einen Kolibri in freier Natur in Deutschland beobachtet, wobei es sich in Wirklichkeit um diesen erstaunlichen Schmetterling handelte.
Das 'Taubenschwänzchen' ist ein tagaktiver Wanderfalter und vermag Strecken von mehr als 3000 km in ungefähr zwei Wochen zurückzulegen. Besuchte er uns früher alljährlich aus dem Mittelmeerraum kommend, sind mittlerweile auch hier überwinternde Exemplare entdeckt worden. Dieser Schmetterling erreicht Höchstgeschwindigkeiten von bis zu 80 km/h (bei einer Frequenz von 70 bis 90 Flügelschlägen pro Sekunde)!

Amazing video indeed! It’s great that you showed us closely this small butterfly that was flying freely in the wonderful garden with a lot of colorful and beautiful flowers.

Wenn man genau hinsieht sieht man in Großaufnahme auch den langen Rüssel. Die farbenprächtige Blumenwiese bietet die perfekte Kulisse für das faszinierende Schauspiel!

What an amazing little creature. I've seen a lot of humming birds in the American South, and this little guy indeed could pass for a micro-humming bird.
How amazing that a butterfly can reach such speed, and expend such energy, and travel so far -- I had no idea that was possible.
About the videos, the DTube looked great. It took a while to load and there were a few pauses, but not a problem.

Sorry, dass ich mich noch nicht wieder gemeldet hatte ... Im Prinzip würde ich euch gerne das ein oder andere Foto zur Verfügung stellen ... es ist nur so, dass ich mit Schrecken festgestellt habe, in einer Art Aufräumwahn einige der Bilder-Ordner wohl gelöscht zu haben, nachdem ich die Bilder auf Steemit 'gesichert' hatte (mir war gar nicht klar, dass sie dort nur mit geringerer Auflösung gespeichert werden). Zum Glück betrifft das nicht alle Ordner, und ich habe auch die Hoffnung, auf einigen USB-Sticks bzw. externen Festplatten ebenfalls noch einige der Bilder gespeichert zu haben. Aber wegen der Erkenntnis, einige sehr schöne Bilder verloren zu haben, trat erst mal dein Vorschlag in den gedanklichen Hintergrund.
Welche Art von Bildern würden dich denn am ehesten interessieren? Ich schaue mal, welche von den verbliebenen hochaufgelösten geeignet sind, um sie dir zu schicken.
Ouwei, von so einem Datenschwund bleibt wohl keiner verschont, hatte dieses Jahr auch schon ein ähnliches Dilemma -.- Drücke ich dir auf jeden Fall die Daumen, dass der Verlust nicht so rießige Ausmaße annimmt.
Also wir sind ja ein Team, hier schreibt gerade Benny aka. @hereforawhile. Ich persönlich bin ja absoluter Fan von Makrofotografie und Naturaufnahmen im Allgemeinen, sprich Landschaften, Blumen, Tiere - dann wäre da noch Architektur. Das sind so meine 3 ,Favoriten', wenn man es denn so sagen kann.
Prinzipiell kann man allerdings nicht sagen, mit welchen Bildern, welche Ergebnisse erzielt werden können. Ich weiß ja nicht, inwiefern du dich in unser Werken eingelesen hast, aber es scheint, dass unsere ,menschliche' Kreativität und die, die uns die neuronalen Netzwerke präsentieren, nicht auf ein und der selben Linie liegen :D

In echt sind diese Tiere noch viel faszinierender, wenn man sieht, wie zwischen jeder Positionierung der Rüssel ein- und wieder ausgefahren wird ;-)
Ja, was detailierte Videoaufnahmen von sich schnell bewegenden Insekten betrifft, muss ich noch etwas üben. In der Eile/Begeisterung hatte ich gar nicht daran gedacht, während der Aufnahme mal die Zoom-Funktion zu benutzen ... Ich entschied mich, das Video trotzdem hier einzustellen, weill allein schon der Flug faszinierend anzusehen ist, auch wenn man die Schmetterlinge nicht in Großaufnahme sieht.
Ja, die Tiere an sich sind schon faszinierend anzuschauen.

I watched the Vimeo version because my Internet is kind of slow and I always have streaming issues with DTube. I believe the major video streaming sites do some optimization of up-loaded videos whereas DTube just stores it in the same state as it was up-loaded and then plays it back. As far as I know, users of DTube need to know how to optimize the videos themselves before up-loading.

I actually don't know if it's necessary (and how) to optimize videos before uploading them to dtube ...
Sorry! Thanks for reminding me. How do you keep track of who up-voted and who did not from all those votes? I generally just look at the drop-down list, but it stops at 20 votes. The sites that list all the data have so much stuff on there that sorting each post's votes would be a nightmare I would think.

Ah, yes! Thank-you. I have used it but never knew to what extent things could be filtered. I just tried to look at one of my articles and then chose to see all the votes actually received for that one article and it shows it beautifully with a graph and everything. That one site can replace all the others (I think) for getting data from the blockchain.
