RE: How to Build Courage & Form a Connection With Your Ancestors

in #dtube7 years ago

He must have been born in the States since I don't hear a German accent.

I don't know if you remember but I had been studying German for some years now although lately I've been slacking. I always thought German culture was interesting.

Sort:

He has Germanic ancestry but he was born in the states.

German culture now is beer and Abendbrot, being afraid to say your opinion, blind acceptance and tolerance, weakness and having a beer gut.

I am not proud of my country and never was.

I am proud of my ancestors and honor them, but current Germany and its people ain't worth fighting for.

They are responsible that people like Merkel are in power in the first place.

Abendbrot? Evening bread?

Haha beer gut.

I find it very interesting that you are not proud of your country because I have actually heard many Germans say this. Is it because of what happened during the holocaust? Or something else?

Abendbrot means eating bread in the evening, this tradition is almost lost as well.

Many Germans say this? Must be behind closed doors or private or online.

Yes, it is beceause they are taught in school, by media and politicians to feel ashamed for it. Every year they show how german politicians visit WW2 memorials and how they are ashamed of what happened, it is fucking disgusting, the generation that did this is dead, we ain't responsible for it.
