I have written in the past that the more clear it becomes where a project is going the investment will be less risky but the potential for profit will also be less because you will have to pay more to get in.
Now that it's pretty clear the STEEM blockchain is maturing, not only in development but also in price, I find personanlly more difficult to recommend to anyone to buy it. (Even though I think it will go much higher). It was just easier when it was 15 cents.
I would however always recommend anyone new to crypto to join Steemit and start creating content to take their first steps in the fascinating world.
I do love thinking about the potential of this blockchain and do that every single day.
A lot of the development around the STEEM blockchain is not just coming from Steem inc. A lot of community members build amazing tools and frontends. Some are very well known like D.tube, busy.org, Esteem and Steemify ;)
But some are not. One of them is STEEMBAY.
I have been contacted by user @pollux.one if I could shed some light on that project.
STEEMBAY allows you to have auctions, just like eBay, on the STEEM Blockchain.
How does it work?
If you want to sell an item or service on the Steem blockchain you make a post about the item you want to sell and include all the info you want to share about the item and include photo's and shipping details.
You fill in #steembay as the first tag and the language of your choosing as second tag (english is standard, "fr" for french, "spanish" for spanish, "tk" for turkish or "deutsch" for German.
After you post the steembay bot will comment on your post with instructions and you can start the auction!

What I like about this project is that it works. And yes, maybe it's still rough around the edges and there is room for improvement but it does work.
I do believe this project has a huge potential for the future and I will follow it with interest.

I was thinking of auctioning a few things before moving again and am wondering if this would save the hassle of managing bids - I think it will!

If only the SBD was more stable Steembay would be a lot more useful.
I'm sure we would have a vibrant market place with a stable SBD.
Unfortunately because of the greed in the community we won't see SBD properly pegged any time soon.

i've tried it, it's pretty darn cool, you should totally consider working together and maybe have this as a panel in steemify? i realise it's only like a notifications app but hey you could have a section for auctions in there too or maybe another standalone app? :)
A standalone app (desktop + mobile) is considered / planned. Time/Ressources are the problem about it.

The more of these we get the better adoption will become. I think as long as we keep getting more people to get themselves signed up, the bigger market there will be for developers. With the price of STEEM getting so high, people can make decent money just being active members, obviously not life changing money, but enough to make it worth your time to be involved in Steemit.

I asked @pollux.one the same question! He said that once an auction ends the buyer and seller can contact each other on steemchat/discord and discuss this.
Also not to forget the possibility to send an encrypted memo, if you are not comfortable with the security on the chats. This will make your details only known to the buyer, noone else can see them. How to use encrypted memos

@exyle do you know if is there an option for minimum price, or better yet a fixed price option?
I'll be honest a marketplace that removes ebay and/or amazon from the transaction would be welcome to a LOT of sellers out there. One of my businesses sells heavily on both those platforms so I network with hundreds of other sellers and the amount of contempt towards both ebay and amazon from sellers is amazing. There is potential for a new competitor to step in and take away market share from both ebay and amazon.
Actually you will HAVE to set a minimum price because you have to "start" the auction by commenting with "start x.x" ( e.g. 0.001 SBD, or 1.0, or 100.999 )
The initial idea about steembay was to keep the SBD in the system AND to be finally able to DO something at all with our currency. The step outside will probably only make sense as soon as we have finished the app, making it possible to search and filter, as well as using templates, multiple auctions etc. The actual version is working, but it's still quite rough and basic.
This is something I will need to follow. We sell an average of maybe 500 items a week between the accounts we maintain.

Another very cool tool for the steem bockchain, that allows you to turn physical assets into crypto. Forget fiat/crypto pairing, this is stuff/SBD pairing :))

I love how most things are kept within Steemit and it's blockchain. Like f.e. how Steembay had a competition here on Steemit for people to design their logo, help growing this community by using it to the fullest.

Steemit is really growing and the earlier people start coming with their own ideas too the better. Like you said, once the risk is less now, they pay more. I haven't tried Steemify before though. I only tried Esteem. Great idea by Steembay. Steemit is growing at an alarming rate.

Steembay is a great idea!
It can work out very well, imagine if it grows huge and what will happen to steemit users.
Because people will be able to use their steem dollars and steem tokens to directly buy anything they want.

Ha, steembay looks fun. I just had a look at the umbrella post you've linked. It seems pretty simple to use and bid, this can be used in a variety of situations. Best of all, its free! I'm pretty sure eBay takes a cut for the procedures of their auctions, but steembay is free!
It's a great projects, if someone wants to use it they can earn much knowledge from the sight. The increasing price of steem has risen the hope and expectations of the people with which they can achieve economic freedom. I would like to offer great thanks for sharing such a valuable lesson.
I hope to see an interface for steembay sometime soon, something that help us find the items we want easier.

I think Steem is getting more interesting as each day passes by due to it blockchain development regularly and will want my actions on Steem to be a contribution on it development.
