DIY coffee & turmeric facial scrub

in #dtube6 years ago (edited)

Hey guys,

How have you all been? It's been quiet around here, and on my own blog as well...real life has been keeping me busier than usual.

I feel horrible when I can't read/watch other's content and comment, but a little break is needed sometimes. I still need to get some other stuff done, a few translations here and there, projects to finish, but today I took a minute to take care of myself - more specifically my face. I rarely put anything on my face, so using a scrub is special for me. I'm sharing it here with you in case you want to try it.

Turmeric & coffee is supposed to help with unwanted skin hyper-pigmentation, which is my issue. I suffered some sun damage over the years, and it manifests itself in the form of darker spots on my face. My dermatologist confirmed sun damage, and scolded me for not using sun protection every single day. I made a promise to myself to change this, but also want to get rid of these spots in the meantime.

Turns out it's totally doable!

All you need to do is scrub, as well as brighten. Coffee and turmeric fill both of these functions (at least according to Google!) and have excellent anti-oxidant properties. My scrub is made of coffee grounds (4 spoons), 1 spoon of turmeric powder and coconut oil. Apply, leave it on for 20 minutes, then massage gently and rinse. Et voilà =)

PS: Do you know how you can tell that I'm getting more comfortable in front of the camera? When I show up in my PJ's early morning (like here) and slap on some disgusting stuff on my face while filming...LOL. Enjoy!

If you try it, let me know how it goes!

What a great idea! I have never had these pigmentation issues before until the last year when I traveled a lot in South Europe and went to the sea more often than usually. I have a few spots on my face but I kind of didn't pay too much attention to it. What really bothers me are my shoulders and back of my neck so I will try this and see if it works on these parts of the body as well.

Just one question - did you make the coffee before or you took the dried coffee and simply added coconut oil and turmeric? I know I can probably google it but thought it would be better to ask as you have some experience already :)

I wish you good luck with all you have to do :) Oh, and haven't seen your baby belly in such a long time!!

Take care and have a good weekend, Eve!

hey girl, I used fresh coffee grounds, so they hadn't been used yet. I'm sure used coffee would also exfoliate, but some nutrients and anti-oxidants would probably be lost =)

I will post more belly pics soon ahahah thank you so much for stopping by and I hope this recipe helps you get rid of your spots =)

Interesting. I often use straight coffee

you mean on your skin? I'm sure that's good too! Definitely a good scrub =)

Yep, as an exfoliant scrub. It's what we in the herb business call a rubifacient. That is it increases local blood flow. Makes the skin healthier

Hey Evecab

Usually I'm the rough and rugged type but I might have to give up coffee :-( and I've got a big ass bag of Columbian ground hanging around! I'm sure there is some turmeric somewhere as well so maybe this can be my excuse to get down to some personal grooming for the first time!

Ha ha, I love the part where you put the war paint on! I wonder though... is it possible for me to make myself any more pastey white than I already am with this scrub? ;-)

ahahahahaha Rowan if you try it I'd be so honored LOL. I figured all the guys here would yawn at this video's topic lol....but hey who knows, maybe the coffee will give you a nice healthy glow!

maybe the coffee will give you a nice healthy glow

Or I can get my caffeine hit absorbed through my skin :)

What gives us life is also what kills us, sadly. The Sun, and Oxygen. Those are the two things that eventually kill us haha.

Yes it’s crazy! No wonder people here walk around with umbrellas to shield themselves from the sun... I get it now 😜

A very neat idea! Have you tried any of the other home-made make-ups in this blog we found online? Check out our sustainability secrets article for some more sustainability inspiration! re-steemed!

no I haven-t, I'm not so much into makeup, but I like everything related to health =)

Hi @evecab, did you use ground turmeric or fresh? I can imagine how it really stain in your skin and took quiet long to get rid of it. Does it take time to wash it off?

hey girl, I used ground turmeric, but fresh works too! I'm just lazy by nature LOL. The yellow color actually came off easily with soap, so don't worry about having a yellow face afterwards =)

Is this freshly ground coffee you're using?

Hey girl no it was just regular ground coffee from a pack

Oh okay, thanks! Considering trying this scrub!

do it! It's messy and smells like coffee, but it leaves a nice feeling afterwards =)

I love coffee, so that would be a good thing for me. I just realized that I used the last bit of coconut oil to make a cake for my friend, will have to buy more. God damn it.

Im aaabsolutely surprised you haven't used the keyframe with the scrub on your face for the thumbnail :D

Also surprised you're saying you don't spend time on the beach that much, I thought you're there regularly hah :) Btw your story is making me question my complete ignorance of suncreams :D

I go to the beach sometimes on Sunday’s when the weather is nice, but I usually avoid the bad times when the sun is too strong and always wear protection...but I think it’s not enough lol.
