Very interesting. It mirrors our own situation in Dublin where we abandoned our trams in the 40s and now, with the significant population growth and threatening gridlock, we've had to bring them back again.

Great video, I hope to see Wendover Productions' future videos. That being said, I think we have to also more deeply consider two points that are touched on in this video:

  1. America is relatively young compared to other nations, therefore our infrastructure is naturally not as efficient. On top of that, being the first nation to develop automobiles gave other nations that adopted the technology afterward time to observe what worked and what didn't, when developing their infrastructure.

  2. Our priorities are not on building a better public transportation system. Most of our government's $$ goes to military expenditures. Not saying this is a good thing (it's not) but it's the truth.

The video shows that on the contrary, prior to WWII the US had the best public public transport infrastructure in the world.

No alternative there that's the main cause i hope some new means of transportation system lead the change there :)
