Both sides are probably controlled by the same hidden powers. That's how they like to play the game. And play the people off against each other, same old. Divide and Rule. Bread and circuses.
And if they are thinking they are to loose control, remove the bread and circuses and let the people be busy with getting their stomach filled that day. And escalate the division and start the carnage, they'll be welcomed back in to restore order. Always works, if in the chaos the people don't start chopping heads of those that are causing all the events unfolding.
