The CIA is not, and has never been, about keeping the "free world" safe. That is merely the organisation's cover. With it's origins deep in the elite privilege, compromising rituals and strict secrecy of Yale's Skull and Bones society, total control over society has always been it's remit.

That is control over money, corporations, entertainment, culture, and, of course, the lucrative international drug trade.

Culture creation, via modern art, entertainment, and yes, even home cooking, is a key component of the CIA's control over our society.
