DEVIANT - dramatic short film / reverse story

This is one of my short films. I made this on for a short film contest. The task was to shoot a 3 minute short film within 40 hours. The topic was "Opposites of society".

The German magazine "Videofilmen" (01/2017) wrote about this film:
"A simple idea, which results in a thrilling film through skillful implementation and great craftsmanship. The timing of the individual settings is great: we just get enough time to locate the first, and thus actually the last of the film, before the film goes backwards: literally.
This only works in short film, which is not just told backwards, from the end, but the pictures themselves run backwards. And it only works with a lot of planning and clean camera work. Here it works. The tension that builds it up, and the visual impact that underlines it, makes the dissolution, which is presented to us bit by bit, all the more moving.
And then: is it clichéd, spectacular, dramatically destroying provincial fates of the underclass, this dissolution? Not at all.
Although the concrete footage at the end of the film has a clichéd tendency, the subject - regrettably - is absolutely realistic. Well observed.
A gorgeous movie."

Dies ist einer meiner Kurzfilme. Diesen hier habe ich für einen Kurzfilmwettbewerb gemacht. Die Aufgabe bestand darin, innerhalb von 40 Stunden einen 3-minütigen Kurzfilm zu drehen. Das Thema war "Gegensätze der Gesellschaft".

Die deutsche Zeitschrift "Videofilmen" (01/2017) schrieb darüber folgendes:
"Eine simple Idee, die durch geschickte Umsetzung und tolles Handwerk einen begeisternden Film ergibt. Das Timing der einzelnen Einstellungen ist klasse: wir kriegen gerade noch genug Zeit, die erste, und damit eigentlich die letzte des Films, zu verorten, bevor der Film rückwärts läuft: wörtlich.
Das funktioniert nur im Kurzfilm, dass nicht bloß rückwärts, vom Ende aus, erzählt wird, sondern die Bilder selbst rückwärts laufen. Und es funktioniert nur mit viel Planung und sauberer Kameraführung. Hier funktioniert es. Die Spannung, die es aufbaut, und der Bildlook, der sie unterstreicht, machen die Auflösung, die uns erst Stück um Stück dargeboten wird, umso bewegender.
Und dann: ist sie klischeehaft, effekthaschend, Provinzschicksale der Unterschicht dramatisierend, diese Auflösung? Ganz und gar nicht.
Auch wenn die konkreten Aufnahmen am Filmende einen klischeehaften Hang haben, ist das Thema - bedauerlicherweise - absolut realistisch. Gut beobachtet.
Ein hinreißend toller Film."
