I agree that it's definitely harder to get traffic to your Steemit content if you don't have a presence on another platform. That doesn't mean that there is anything wrong with having youtube fame though

Is that it though? I agree fame is one factor, but I think it's possible to gain traction on Steemit in a number of ways.
However, with that said,
in it's current capitalistic form, Steemit does not solve classism, it does not provide an opportunity for the poor, it does not reward anyone for reading the content, and it's linear progression of voting power places most of the influence on an elite few. Unless there's a hard fork which specifically addresses these issues, and so long as Steemit remains a 100% capitalistic system, none of this will change, regardless of the goodwill of the community, or any efforts made by Steemians themselves.
