Hi D-Sound family and Steemians, This is the second number from my 4 track vaults from the late 80's, and despite it being 30yrs old this is the first time it's been heard anywhere other than my own house!
I've always been a big fan of jug band music, and here I've taken a Blind Willie McTell song called Dark Night Blues, circa 1928, originally in a piedmont ragtime blues style, I played around with a Jug band feel to it.
I play all the instruments, a 30's five string banjo, a 40's banjo mandolin, harmonica and of course blowing into an old fashioned liquor jug for that unmistakable Jug band feel, and sing. (Billy no mates living in a small town back then, I had to play everything myself 😏 )
I remember I laid down the banjo and vocals together first, and then added the banjo mandolin, Jug bass and harmonica afterwards.
Wow 30 yrs ago. and I can see a little naivety there, but I like that, and the song bounces along nicely on the banjo pick.
I hope you all enjoy this song.
