I'm really grateful to be able to make music with a group of friends in Edinburgh Scotland. We call ourselves Fhonn. This is a song we recorded together in a living room at the end of last year. Thought I'd share it with you and try my best to make a little sense out of it here!
Although we all live in the city now most of us grew up in rural places. I spent some of my childhood on a small island off the west coast of Scotland. After being in the city for a decade I missed the sea air and laid back attitude of the west coast so I went back hoping to find a sense of place I suspect. I still loved it there but on reflection (after my trip) I think I came to the gradual conclusion that I'd built up a sense of something in my head through a mixture of childhood nostalgia and wanderlust that wasn't really true...
I actually do feel really settled now although I still need to smell the sea and get away from people now and again for my sanity.
Much love.
Keith
Lyrics:
Same old, same old, places
Lost amongst the landmarks
Cities get me down
I used to crave new faces
These people move too fast
Will you take me back?
And there’s sea salt on your lashes now
Sea shells underfoot
You cannot settle here
You cannot settle here
Green and grey and rose tint
Childlike and naive
I can’t dance in time
I know you harbour secrets
Things I shouldn’t know
Take me back again
And there’s sea salt on your lashes now
Sea shells underfoot
You cannot settle here
You cannot settle here
Found out I’ve been lying
To my thoughts of you
Calling time on this
Across the Ross of Mull
Southeast of my haunting
Feeling out of time
You want to settle down
You need a settled life
I have found my peace
