The benefits of a legal market for cannabis:
The legalization of weed on a global scale has more positives than negatives and is good for everyone involved. Here is why:
- Legalization would majorly decrease illegal street sales and the legal market would quickly take over the illegal market. One of the most common issues in society is the illegal drug trade and legalization could help remove a major part of that issue.
- The chances of you buying cut cannabis significantly decrease. If what goes into the flower is monitored by the government it is much less likely that you will buy something cut.
- Deaths from harder drugs will decrease a lot. In places where the drug has been legalized there have been a massive decrease in deaths related to opioids. Opioids are a big killer worldwide and there is an epidemic which could be decreased with a legal cannabis market.
- People who do struggle with addiction to cannabis will be much more open to talk to doctors about it. There would be no reason to hide your drug usage if it is legal to use the drug.
- It is extremely good at easing pain and can be more effective than opioids. Opioids are also extremely addictive and easy to become dependent on but weed is not physically addictive and is difficult to become psychologically addicted to. This could cut down on the opioid epidemic.
- The government could easily tax it and it would benefit them a lot whilst also taking money out of the hands of potentially dangerous street level drug dealers and kingpins.
- If weed was legal hemp would most likely be legal and this would lead to more research on the uses of hemp. We already know it can be used to make paper so if more research is done, we could replace standard paper with hemp paper and hemp grows much quicker than trees. We have been looking for an alternative for a long time and hemp may be the renewable resource we need.
- There is some evidence towards cannabis being helpful in the curing cancer. If it was legal more research would be done therefore we could possibly find a real cure to cancer.
- The thousands of people who have health issues which cannabis may be able to help with will finally be legally allowed to take their medicine.
- It will be much harder for children and teenagers to get hold of it as you need a medicinal / recreational pass to buy marijuana in places it is currently legal and you cannot get this until you are legally an adult. Since legalization will lead to a major decrease in street sales, children cannot buy from street dealers anywhere near as easily and they cannot buy from dispensary's full stop.
Cannabis is becoming more and more and more accepted everyday and it has no many medicinal benefits that there is no reason for doctors to not prescribe it as a medicine to people who truly need it.
