This painting is from a series I did many years ago on the subject of French Reunion Island. I painted murals there, and taught mural painting there from 1985 to 1995.
Corrugated tin was used for building houses, roofing, making fences and sheds. It was often painted in very bright colors and in varying stages of oxidation and decrepitude. Here is an example of a local "case".

Reunion Island has a warm tropical climate and I found the light effects of the vegetation on various surfaces, and the shadows created by them interesting to explore in painting. These shadows created a sort of lace effect, constantly varying and colorful. Here is a close-up; I think you will find these patterns worthy of interest:
I have fond memories of my years working there and enjoyed the color and texture challenge the subject provided.

The beauty in the ordinary! We see this same building material all the time in Colombia, these tin sheets are very useful for just about anything. We call them zin, which I think means zinc, but not sure. They definitely look better when painted.
I love delicate shadow work over the multi-colored fencing, this is so real, so ordinary, yet so profoundly beautiful! Much of the shadows almost look like flower fractals themselves!
I would also love to see more about murals and teaching murals! Have you done a post more about that yet?

I spent many years earning my living as a public art muralist, sculptor, and mosaicist. I should post about these things; Lord knows I have a ton of material.
One of my favorite ideas to pursue is that great beauty is under our noses at every moment and we just have to take a good look to see it and show it to others.

I have to work to drop the scales from my eyes some times. After four years living deep in the Andes Mountains in rural Colombia, I would walk to and from our farm and the nearest town, and sometimes I would just stop, taken aback that I wasn't noticing how spectacular the view was!
Whenever visitors come they mention it, yeah, its spectacular, move along, LOL.
