Getting the drone out to explore something unique is always fun, challenging and scary.
Travelling through Thailand we came across an abandoned cruise ship that was within flying distance for the drone.
The ship sits on a mud bank at the bottom of a river just across from Koh Phra Thong on the west coast of Thailand.
It appears to be an old cruise ship that looks to have been there for 10 - 15 years. We haven't been able to get much information on it, but it could be from a shipping company that has gone bust. The site is also the area badly damaged in the 2006 Tsunami, but we don't believe the ship is from that due to the way it was abandoned.
Filming it was great fun. It was around 500m away from where I was positioned so all filming was done on the camera, not through line of sight. This meant that I had to plan and execute the shots from a distance.
It was very hot, mid day Thailand being around 35 degrees Celsius. Luckily I had the car, so I was able to sit in the car with the AC on for some of the challenging shots.
If I had more time and battery I would have completed a few fly overs with the fishermen busy in the background. But I am extremely happy with the footage that I was able to capture.
The music was sourced from CCMixter, composed by Zep Hurme, it is available here.
I hope you enjoyed the drone video and taste of travelling in Thailand. Remember to up vote if you appreciate the content.
Wow, I wish I had one of those!
Cool stuff like this is what makes me want to invest in a good drone. Nice footage.
they are fun to play around with. I don't get to use it as much as I like, but you should investigate getting one more! DJI Mavic is great.
Is that what you're using here? Just read up on them and they seem to be the way to go as far as quality goes.
Yea, thats what this is filmed on. They are well loved in the community. To be the
'apple' of the drone world!
Man, I would love to fly a fast drone through the bones of that ship.
Haha, I'm not sure I'd take it through the ship!
nice title you have given to abandon ship "ghost ship".You are carrying drone everywhere I think @jmcmeekin .Good discovery in Thailand.thanks to share with us.
Epic video @jmcmeekin, a big thumbs ups for your work...
Thanks
Epic footage @jmcmeekin, never seen anything this in my life.
I think is very nice place and both but good
Congratulations on the beautiful impressive video. Let's be friends and interact.
Nice shot, cool sound .you just made d ghost ship come back alive, wish i was there with you.nice one dear
Nice shots dude! It's fun flying a drone around especially when you travel and come across different things to film like that ghost ship (in my mind it's a ghost ship) :)
I'm currently touring around Europe, uploaded my Italy video to DTube: Italian Sky - Italy By DJI Phantom Drone
Keep on dronin'! ↳ Resteemed.
Very interesting! This looks very promising.
Amazing footage! Is it easy enough to travel with the drone? I guess you take it in hand luggage! I too would love a drone but there are lots of regulations where i live and cant find anywhere to practice.
It's pretty cool seeing these old ships around. Would be interesting to know the story behind it.
did you manage to see Pattaya? I lived there for 5 years, amazing times they were, every day a crazy day of no rules.
Not on this trip. Just down the East Coast towards Phuket. Ive travelled quite a lot in Thailand so it is nice to travel around slowly.
oo ghot in sea,, and owning ship,,, in thiland,,nice ship and super ghost idea,, nice work good job, best content topic,, best of luck
Thanks
Awesome post, nicely filmed. It's hard to believe the quantity of abandoned ships (and more) arround the world.
Wooow Excellent video, good shot and resolution, what model of dron did you use for this? Regards! @originalworks

The DJI Mavic Pro. It has a great quality camera and solid build. The firmware can be a bit annoying but you can just turn off updates and enjoy the drone!
Good work. I like that you posted not only video but a description as well. I wonder though why they just leave ships like that, shouldn't it be taken apart or something?
Often it is too expensive to salvage them so they just leave them. Apparently there are ships that are just left at sea as well floating around. Spooky.
Spooky indeed, also not very cool from the environmental perspective
wow..
Nice angle with your drone @jmcmeekin , did you ever get any hassle there for using a drone?
Hmm looks pretty badass, do you know if its possible to dive there or snorkel around the wreck? Would indeed be pretty cool.
+1 on the drone, just love drone videos haha 🙌🏼
Otherwise, if you're into travelling, vlogs, fitness, self-development etc feel free to check out my channel, in any case keep up the good work and I'll see you around! :)
Yes, it would be possible to get to this drone with snorkel. A few hundred meters in calm water. If I had more time I would have tried to get there myself.
Nice! Keep the drone posts up :D
I also like drones and regularly post some footage!
Let's stay connected :)
Thanks, I'll check them out!
Spooky and interesting. I loved watching the footage.
Great shots! Very cool. Nice job.
I have over 200 flying hours on my Dji Phantom 3 which is a lot but I have never captured anything similar to this :(
I mostly have boring forest footage
Cool shots. Makes me want a drone even more. I'm getting the new mavic pro soon (platinum). Would you recommend it?
Nice footage! I also use the Mavic Pro and it's so much fun to fly with this one. The drone registration process in Thailand however, is a pain in the ass. Regards from Koh Phangan :)
