Hello Steemit friends:
Recently, a friend who saw my Steemit scrapbook title page suggested creating a navy blue/dark blue background speckled with stars and I thought it was a great idea. So tonight, that is what I worked on:
When I first posted the finished title page, the background was just plain white. I considered making the background blue at the time, but opted for a white background to keep it simple. However, when my friend suggested stars, I thought it would be really cool because it would be like the balloons are flying through outer space!:
I started off by outlining the lettering with a Aqua Blue (BG01) copics marker to add a bit of highlight around the lettering to enhance its visibility against the dark blue background.
As you can see in the above picture, I had already started coloring in the bottom part of the page with the Sky (B24) copics marker.
This is actually the first time I'm really using copic markers to color and blend, so I was a bit nervous about messing up and not getting the color right. Luckily, for the most part, you can keep working with copic markers and keep blending and blending until you achieve your desired color. I used a lot of circular blending (only because of the tutorials I watched), rather than using the "stroke" blending, which was great because it helped achieve sort of a cloudy look.
I was pretty amazed at how well the markers blended together. After this, I added Cool Gray No.8 (C8).
Honestly, I didn't know how blending this was going to work, if at all. I kept switching between Aqua Blue, Sky, and the colorless blender (0). The colorless blender is exactly that, it has no color, and you use it to blend other colors. It's pretty nifty because you can take the tips of two different copic colors and actually color them on the white tip of the colorless blender to sort of fuse the colors together. Then you can use the colorless blender to do the coloring; the color doesn't last long on the marker which is great, because you can quickly use it to blend together other colors. This isn't the only blending technique, there are plenty more.
Blending C8 with the blue was a hassle, so after I blended as much as I could (with paper that's not the best for copics >.O), I added Cool Gray No.6 (C6) to the page:
C6 blended well with C8 (not to my surprise, the numbers aren't far from each other). I blended C6 with Sky (B24) to add more blue to the background. After I finished working with the color of the background, it was time to add the stars. I used a Pastel White gel pen to add dots with a variety of different sizes to create the outer space look. It took a lot of patience and time to just dot the darn page, but I'm pretty satisfied with the end result. After I finished adding the stars, I had to go back with a black Precise V5 rolling pen to redefine the letters since they became a bit blurry after using a ton of ink on the page.
After I redefined the lines and finished adding to the stars, I realized the the stars even matched the glittery steemit symbols.
Here are the before and after pictures:
Wow, it looked cool to me already, but adding that background really made it better. Makes me want to go back and finish sketches and stuff.
Thanks! I love stars - knowing myself, I don't think I would make adjustments on past sketches, but start a new sketch and redraw the old sketch in my new style. I'm pretty stern when it comes to "chronicling" my life. Even when I'm journaling, I have to write the date and the exact time (to the minute) and day.
A part of what you wrote is why I want one of those fancy tablet pen setups so I can just transfer everything to digital and work in that medium. Even though I know I would miss the physical feel of a pen or marker or pencil that just has one color and function that changes depending on how hard I press down, I just don't believe a tablet pen can do this as good. Anyways, that ability to save your drawing as different files as you go as you change things and always being able to go back and adjust. Basically being able to "chronicle" every step of the way on any given drawing or project.
Yeah, that's true. I've played around a bit with photoshop, but it doesn't feel as good as drawing ink on the page. Even though I hate making mistakes, if I could just keep deleting them, I feel like my drawing progress might be hindered because of it. Whenever I make a mistake that I can't reverse, I'm more likely to "internalize" it and remember it for next time to avoid making the same mistake in the future, whereas, if I could easily delete it, then it won't really matter how many mistakes I make as long as I can make "one good stroke". I really love Steemit because every time I post the progression of one of my art pieces, it's a way to chronicle every step. Since it's on blockchain, it will stay there unchanged. I feel like Steemit really suits my strict nature when it comes to precision and preservation.
Great work as always Sabrina! Resteemed :)
Thanks Denise! :)

Thanks! I'm glad the colors managed to mix together.
Beautifully, you can see a lot of details and your work.
Hello! Thanks for the comment :) I'm planning on making one scrapbook page for every post I make on Steemit. Instead of adding photos, I'm going to recreate the memory, either with my drawing, painting, copic markers, construction paper, gel pens, etc... with whatever comes to mind at that moment. :) It's my Steemit Scrapbook
