This must be the most well-known poisonous mushroom in the world; the Amanita muscaria or the Fly Agaric. The third in this series of mushroom drawings (for the first two, see my blog). The drawing of this subject was more interesting compared to the Chantarell. Because of its multilayered nature:
The first layer: the well known white spots on the cap;
The second layer: the cap itself which should be a smooth surface, and the spores on the back which have again another texture ;
The third layer: under the cap, you see the first stem peel - like with an onion;
The fourth, fifth and sixth and seventh layer; all the short peels at the bottom;
The eight layer; the root itself.
Each layer comes with a light part and a shadow and this creates depth. Shadows are something I tend to work on for days; I pass by the drawing, pick up a pen and add a dot here and there.
