What things should be improved to make Steem great again?

This is a great check the pulse poll, to feel the temperature and attitude of STEEM right now.
It's not surprising to me that you have several issues stacked up on top of each other, since you pretty much hit on all them.
I chose other simply because I feel like there are some nuances to all of these issues, even though they're exactly what people discuss all the time.
The sad thing is, I'm not sure what any of it has to do with STEEM, meaning, any or all of it could have some affect. My guess is, a lack of marketing isn't helping, because others seem to be controlling the STEEM narrative a whole lot better, and that narrative is STEEM is a lost cause, due to at least some of the issues listed here.
I think there's a lack of networking with the exchanges and media and other hype machines crypto has. It seems like knowing people who know people is just important as what the blockchain does or can do.
I think the simple fact of the matter is, we control our own destinies here, and we can fulfill our own prophecies. If we think the problems are so big they're driving people away, then we should be doing something about it. Instead, we spin our wheels and never get anywhere because there's a thousand reasons not to change, and because others with vested interest in the status quo seem to be the ones with the loudest voices.
This comment seems to be turning into a rant. I'll stop here, and just say, thanks for this poll, and promoting it. I think it's timely, and hopefully you'll get a decent indication of what people think. :)

I'm relatively new to steem so i don't know the platform as well as some of the veteran users but the initial issues I have found are around new users and good content not getting enough votes. It seems like if you don't use bots you don't get upvoted enough to make it worth your while.Its frustrating to spend time writing content you hope people will find engaging, I am not the worlds greatest writer or anything but i do try to put some effort in to my posts and often get no upvotes and then a casual scroll down the posts shows me people posting pictures of their cats and Shit like that getting $20. There does seem to be an enormous amount of spam. I'm hoping that if i persevere this will change.

Has Steem ever been "great" before? Haha.. I think Steem has never really been great yet. But it has always been improving and will eventually be great.
I think the key problem here is the complexity of using Steem platform. There are just too much to learn and living in a fast-paced world, most people just want an easy platform to use.
Having a reward system is both a blessing and a curse. The expectations have to be set right and users cannot expect Steem to be a reliable source of income. If not, they will be disappointed and will stop posting.
Also, the 7 day window for getting upvotes is too short. This encourages frequent but less quality posts. This is good, but we need quality content as well. We need a diverse range of content to attract all sort of users to this platform. So I think the rewards window should be perpetual, like YouTube for example.
Overall, I think we need more dApps that abstract the reward system and complexity of Steem and hide them from users. That might be the way to go to get more users on Steem without them even knowing
It's been in the top 3 blockchains measured by market cap. We have dropped pretty hard in market cap position.

I think that we now have a fundamentally sound platform. Now it's just getting more users to give it a shot.

The lack of real, human interaction (and the lack of visibility for many people)
Maybe the biggest problem on Steem (especially on Steemit) right now is the lack of real, human interaction under the posts.
And many people (not just newcomers) don't even get views.
A lot of people's posts are not seen.
Maybe because a lot of people are writing blog posts, but only a few people cares about other people's blog posts.
After this the bid bot abuse comes.
There are a lot of bot boosted trash content in the "Trending" section, while there is a lot of good content, and they doesn't get enough upvotes or doesn't even get noticed.
Do not advertise Steem (yet?)
To be honest, I would not advertise Steem right now.
The above mentioned important problems should be fixed first, before I would advertise Steem.
If you advertise a thing like this, don't be surprised, if people will leave after a few weeks/months of trying.
Many people are left (and still leaving) Steemit and the Steem blockchain because of the above mentioned problems.
Even I left Steemit and the Steem blockchain for a few months, and I am on Steemit since 2017.05.17.
Good point about that most posts don't get read and upvoted. It's indeed because most are writers here and not readers. That's why i think it wouldn't be a bad thing to get the curation rewards up. It will benefit also the writers in the end because now nobody is reading so you only earn if you upvote the post to trending page yourself. (then it does get noticed a bit)
It's simply more rewarding to sell your vote to upvote bots then curate content. That's why nobody is doing it anymore.
Currently the only way to be a successful blogger here is if you go with the flow of buying upvotes.

@niel96 all of the above! Just like you mentioned about bullying and flagwars, that is turning people that were here and buying Steem and engaging people away, and the markets show that!!
Tron on the other hand is starting to tick up, plus TRX is creating tons of partnerships with well established companies and platforms, Steemit may want to make connections as well. I love this community and platform and am hopeful that we are going to see the steem coin go #ToTheMoon 🚀 unless some of these other things addressed we may be clinging to a sinking ship!
Plus Tron has easier to play Dapps,and as of last week alone 10 more were added! If things don't turn around here, could Tron REALLY be a serious competitor for Steemit???
