Why are you still on the Steem Blockchain?

There have been a lot of fiasco surrounding the most recent hard forks. Many predicted the final doom of the platform.

I did not paint this painting, but it is the funniest thing I still have from #OldSteem: the misaligned portrait of @elear. Much like the misaligned incentives of the platform for the longest time.

If you ever visit @arcange's page for statistics, you'd notice a few interesting things. A mass exodus hasn't happened yet. We still have about the same number of "active" participants on the chain. The only noticeable difference I could discern was the median payout lowering. Well, consider the new curve for rewards, that is not surprising.

If you check out @lukestokes' exchange activity report, same thing. You could see that there are still more withdrawals than deposits. The continual downward trend on the prices reflects that.

A cultural shift seems to be happening and people started to curate more on the platform. I don't mean only upvotes, but downvotes. You have whales actually throwing their weight around, especially on trending. Some dish out downvotes on the largest self-voter on the chain. Some stopped "account preservation posts" and started honest voting. They even advocate others to do the same. Some carried on against abuse with greater efficacy.

I have read so many complaints and sadness over the changes. I cannot say they do not have their points. I have also noted praises for those changes. The landscape of trending changed. Whether it is a net positive is up to debate. It is much harder to reward comments now unless you have large stake.

This is only the beginning. The question then becomes: is it too little too late?

Casting the negativity aside, many (or is it handful?) still remain on the platform.

What is/are your reason(s) for staying on the Steem Blockchain?

Are you here to ride it to the end? Or, will you stay for the rise from ashes?

At some point people on the outside have to decide they like what they see and start buying STEEM to get in on the action.

You know, @anthonyadavisii and I have discussed about stopping our stake at entry dolphin level and go from there. In reality, I think we have powered up more since.

Curation is definitely making a comeback with the EIP changes. This should start attracting good new content creators. I also think we need time to let things settle down a bit. First impressions are quite good.

We can hope. And you are right, only time will tell.

I'm still here, I think, because I still like to create. That's not going to go away, no matter how much they try to change payouts. It's only been three weeks since HF 21 and the EIP took effect. I've been waiting around to see what that would do for payouts, and whether or not manual curation would occur. I believe there are some large SP accounts curating. I don't know how long it's going to last. I have my doubts that it can last. There's a time commitment, and there's far easier ways to earn SP, even if some of them have always been looked down upon and might get you a few free downvotes. So, we'll see. I keep reading we're still in a state of flux as new behavioral patterns emerge. :)

Cautiously optimistic I see.

I think optimistic, cautiously or otherwise, is giving me a little too much credit for positivity that I don't really deserve in this situation. It's more like accepting that I don't know everything, that I could be wrong about all this (wouldn't be the first time or the last), and hoping against hope that a minor miracle occurs. :)

We still have about the same number of "active" participants on the chain.

Hey, isn't that because 90% of that is bots, and noone shut them down yet? :) If we have 1k bots and 100 users, when 50 users leave, active participants metric stays at the same level :)

Shhhh, we don't tell outsiders that.

Hi @enforcer48, I disagree with your depiction of the situation. Steem was ranked in the 4000s on Alexa and over the 90 day chart is in the 6000s now. Additionally, if you review previous months of data compared today you find that the stats look worse than in previous months. It might only be temporary, we can't know.

I disagree with your depiction of the situation.

But, can you see the humor?

Either way, it should be an interesting case study. Appreciate the feedback and support.

#newned -that's my pick!
