Downvotes play a very big role in the proof of brain economy. Without it, the system can’t really work. As we’ve seen over the past few years. Now that we have hard fork 21, we have free downvotes, which means that you can now downvote people without losing on curation rewards. It’s very important that we all contribute by downvoting bad actors so the good actors can rise.
The issue is that finding bad content to downvote takes time, even more if you want to downvote right. And you get free downvotes every day which means that you have to be there every day to downvote stuff if you don’t want to waste downvoting power.
I don’t have that much time nor do I know enough about bad actors to easily find them. So I created https://downvotecontrol.com. It’s a tool that lets you easily automate your downvote, either by trailing your favorite abuse fighting steemiants, or by countering the votes of your "favorite" abusers or bidbots.
There has been a lot of enthusiasm around the tool, and a lot of people reached out to me to ask for specific features to be added. And since this tool was made in a hurry to make sure it would come out as soon as hf21 hits, a lot of the planned features were scrapped.
Features
Hence this proposal. If this proposal gets funded I will add the following features to https://downvotecontrol.com.
KeyChain support :
This one is pretty much self explanatory
Whitelist
Add your friends or users you know are good users and they won’t be downvoted
Voting mechanism overhaul
I will completely rewrite the way votes work to take into account your voting power (aka how much rewards you remove) so that you can either exactly match the upvote in the case of a counter upvote or put the post to 0 (or as close to 0 as possible) in the case of a trailed downvote.
This will really drastically improve the efficiency of the tool. It will go from a relatively rough downvote to a laser focused downvotes. To help you use less downvoting power and/or fight abuse more efficiently.
This will obviously be configurable so that you don’t allocate too much voting power to a single trail.
Counter downvotes
Hf21 means free downvotes allows you to hit bad actors, well sometimes those actors tend to retaliate and try to hurt small users to discourage them from participating in downvoting. This will allow you to counter their
downvotes.
Fighting evil and defending the minnows, what more can you want ?
Bidbot percentage
In #newsteem culture, stacking bidbots is discouraged, this is an option that will allow you to set a ratio of bidboted rewards vs organic rewards when countering upvotes. And if the ratio of organic to bidboted is too high, you’ll downvote.
This option will be available for all of the current downvoting options (trail downvotes and counter upvotes).
Clean trending
This option would make you downvote any post in trending that used bidbots. This would also be configureable with the bidbot percentage. This would make trending more of a result of proof of brain and organic curation instead of a list of all the most bidboted posts. (props to @heimindanger for the idea)
Word count limit
Downvote if the post has less than x words. This is a setting is related to all the trails.
Use your voting power
This option allows you to use your free downvotes and if you run out also use your normal voting power to downvote.
UI and UX improvements
The UI is currently very crude and the UX could help with a lot of changes, so I will remake it so it can support all these new features without
being confusing.
downvotecontrol.com is open source
All of the work above will be published directly on the public repositories, which means that everyone will see the code and will benefit from it. Anyone will be able to run their own version of https://downvotecontrol.com, modify it, innovate on it, run a clone or even just take some code for their own projects.
Overall the whole steem ecosystem benefits from this tool, the developer who can learn from it or pick some of the logic, the regular user who can easily downvote, the abuse figthing group who can ask people to follow his trail and thus fight abuse more efficiently without asking for delegation or ask people to downvote things manually, and the whole steem ecosystem that goes towards being a place with less abuse and where rewards goes to quality content.

The payments from this proposal will be powered up
I am a long time believer in steem, I have never powered down ever since I arrived on steem
two years ago. I am now working full time on steem and I still power up almost all of my earnings from my work with @steempress,because I believe in this project with all my heart.
So all of the SBD this proposal will be converted to steem and powered up. I don’t see it being any other way.

Wow, only asking for 10% less than @steemchiller for his toolset improvements. I bet these features could be implemented much faster, you should probably break them down in to smaller features. You only have 22 votes(but 182 votes on the post) on your proposal at time of writing, over 8M SP. For somebody who complained about how hard it is to get whales to vote on things you sure seem to have a way. It's nice to have friends? I'm downvoting this post for my 2cents because I think circle-jerks are worse for steem than using bid-bots, both lead to a plutocracy. I'm absolutely shocked at the audacity you have to submit the very next proposal and talk of retaliatory downvotes in here. Must be nice to be able to power up all of your steem earnings too. slow clap

We need a community agreed definition of ‘’Bad Actor’’
Mine will undoubtedly very from some and be in accord with others.
We need to be able to have open discussions uninfluenced by flags and generously supported regarding the matter in question ‘Bad Actor’’ and many others like doing your due diligence before fucking up someone’s day and killing their post or comment. I see this bullshit far to often.
I don't think we need a common definition, just pick your own definition and if people like it they will trail you. For a long time people have fought about wether we should downvote things or not. Now we can just do it.
If that post got fucked up and you believe it's actually good content then you should upvote it. That's how proof of brain was supposed to work.

There is no way to block other users from doing anything they want with their stake, including automatically replicating your actions, no matter how much you know about 'dev'.

RECIPE FOR A STEEM PROPOSAL
Well looks like this is the trick for a proposal on steem... make something that only big voters care about and it gets funded.
You know you got funded because you made a tool for @blocktrades @theycallmedan @acidyo @smooth etc
The general audience could care less about this proposal for example, and it shows in the votes.
Did @blocktrades trick @steemitblog and @andrarchy and @ned to pay them to make a tool (well sorta it's not like they actually created the actual tool for voting just the backend we can thank other people doing it FOR FREE) that they get to use to pay indirectly other people for making the features they personally want.
Because let's be honest there have been proposals with TONS of votes not get funded 3-4x more desired than this cool-club 3rd party tool that only you guys want.
Is this a fair assessment of it all?

Just to clarify - this is a #NewSteem proposal kind of thing, and if I go to the SteemConnect link and vote for this proposal (which I think is an excellent idea, by the way), and it gets enough votes from the Steem community at large, then Steem.com will fund it, correct?

It's not steem.com it's in the blockchain itself, but yes, it would get funded :)

I'm already hearing from Appics users who are getting random downvotes from you (@howo) because it's not up to your taste of what is good content. I'm telling you, this is a bad way of approaching this issue. If you want to downvote bot users, fine, but don't attack based on "taste".

Proof of brain, the community and stakeholders. This is literally the point of this blockchain. And to vote for to say if content is good or bad, people upvote or downvote. I know this culture change is recent as free downvotes only came three weeks ago but people will have to get used to it.
Which users ? My downvotes are far from random. I either trail the downvotes of abuse fighting people or downvote myself. So if they were downvoted, there must have been a good reason why.

You see, social plateforms are about sharing. Not every post needs to be some earth shattering photo, thought, or blog on "how to fix things". Sometimes people want to share spur of the moment things. This mafia website plan of yours will only discourage people from sharing and will make people walk on egg shells and eventually just leave. Not like "best that steem has ever seen" but it is an amazing tool yeah, I love it. But I think his proposal is way overpriced. You can read my comment on the post, I explained myself in greater lengths there.
Why do you downvoted one of my posts? I'm not buying bots ... the votes are organic and the content has a lot of work and time put into it.

Also, maybe this option should be considered in conjunction with other options above. Like having a switch button to only "execute" if... and then the other options.
The reason for this is because some STEEM tools don't use many words... like for example APPICS. These will probably get downvoted in many situations. On the other hand, I might want also to consider some tags abuse in culmination with the word count for example.
