The Akbash is not the most popular of dog breeds. Most don’t even know what an Akbash is. They originally come from Turkey, where they were bred for protecting livestock. They are all white now because only the white ones survived back in the day. They were brought the U.S in the 1970’s where they were seen by the UKC (United Kennel Club).
The Akbash is not a recommended dog for someone with little kids. They are very protective of their owner(s) and they don’t really like strangers or little kids that may be rough and rowdy.
Though their coat is very pretty, it does take a lot of work to get that way. They are double coated, and each coat is very thick. They do shed allot, so you must keep up on brushing them. It’s not recommended to give them regular baths, their skin and hair will dry out very quickly. Give them a bath if necessary and use very little shampoo. Sometimes their hair does mat, but not very often.
They’re fairly difficult to train and don’t like taking commands. Doesn’t mean you can’t train them, it’s just very hard and you need some serious patients. They need attention all the time, they become very apart from their owner(s).
They are NOT good apartment dogs, or not good if you’re gone allot. They are a big dog, and they need a big space. For years they have lived on farms and been able to run all the time. It’s best you have a good size yard for these dogs.
Most live from about 10 to 13 years on a good diet.
Male’s Height - 28 to 34

Male’s Weight - 90 to 140
Female’s Weight - 90 to 140
These dogs may need giant bed’s that’s for sure. I don’t know as you could find hair accessories in all that hair, it might get lost.
The world’s smartest dogs are thought to be (1) the Border Collie, (2) the Poodle, and (3) the Golden Retriever and the dumbest dog is believed to be the Afghan Hound.
