Whatever dog you get, I highly recommend researching the alpha dog training. It is about how dogs think about who is in charge, and the subtil things you do that signals to them either that you are alpha or they are alpha. If you try to train them the way a human thinks, they will be confused and frustrated. I have 2 rescue poodles and have also had them as puppies. They don't shed hair which is great, but they must have hair cuts or their hair gets very matted. One of my current poodles is called a Party Poodle and she is really smart and retains much of the old dog instincts that have been bred out of a lot of dogs today. There are a lot of dog "factories" with poor breeding practices, so do your research. Bad genes mean health problems and potentially shorter lifespan. Poodles come in all sizes and I prefer them, but best wishes in whatever you choose.

Thank you so much for the good advise. We will surely heed to your warnings. I know my own personality is not naturally alpha so maybe I need to go to school first. My wife has been a nanny for a long time and she is good at discipline and training kids so maybe that will translate to a dog too. She likes the look of a yorkie poo or a malti poo. I just want one who will ride in the car good and is small enough carry along with us on trips or to the office. Thanks again for the good advise.
