Jay-z - Even if ppl like his music or not, no one can say that he has not been one of the most successful rappers that is still alive today.
Nas- well other than oochie walla walla lol his lyrics remain unsurpassed in depth and knowledge, forces the mind to operate.
Eminem- if you think he should not be in the top five, just imagine your fav rapper going toe to toe with him in a cypher, ill bring the body bag.
Andre 3000- lyrical master mind that can/has mixed depth and entertainment on a level that surpasses this dimension.
Dr. Dre- Show me another rapper that made a billion even if it was not from his songs, oh ill wait. Certified musical genius.

Me personally I like
Lil Wayne 3. because I grew up listening to most of his music and he has alot of diversity to a certain extent
Wiz Khalifa 1. is my favorite I really like his songs they are chill I liked him more when he first started to come out but he still has some bangers with him
Kid Cudi 2. I really like his album man on the moon and day and night is one of my favorite songs
Now I wanted to name a new artist I listening to trippie red 5 .and juice world 5. they make the same kind of new rock rap music so that's why I gave them the same spot I feel they really change it up from the usual when it comes to Melody also juiceworld did a hour long freestyle so ik he has more talent up his steeve most rappers nowadays barely can freestyle for one min
Lastly number 4 and ik my numbers are all over the place my number 4 pick is Gucci mane the old Gucci I like a couple of songs from him out like (first day out) and (in the bag) but his early music I really liked lemonade, wasted , the song with usher I forgot the name and the song with him and Wayne goon to a Goblin the beat was nice and lastly for a honorable mention Drake just cuz I like at least 3 songs a year from him so by default he makes the cut
Ayayayay this is one hell of a hard list to pull off. Not only because a top 5 makes it so that many great rappers don't make but, also because my tastes tend to switch a bit depending on reasons. lol But I'll still try. So;
#1 Lupe Fiasco: In my opinion Lupe is the most underrated rapper, maybe ever! His story telling techniques are out of this World. A sublime flow, with amazing wordplay and metaphors, in almost every verse. What amazes me most is how many songs of his, whose message or story I only got after dozens and dozens of listens. G.O.A.T status for sure!!
#2 Royca da 5'9: Honestly if the list was bigger, the whole slaughterhouse(probably Yelaewolf too) would have made it, probably even in top 5 but I won't for diversity. lol Even here my favorite tends to switch due to reasons but right now Royce is #1. His flow, style and humor are just too infectious!
Yoooo, you should check out his song "legendary". It's dope af, also I've listened to it a couple of times before a buying booter pack, hoping the mojos rubs off and I get myself a legendary. No luck so far but, who knows, maybe one day. lololol
#3 Eminem: Although I feel like he fell off, which is of course inevitable, he still ranks pretty high! And I'm sure his countless classics will keep him there for a very long time.
#4: Andre 3K: Although he is not really present in the rap game anymore, an Andre verse always sticks with you!! Actually, what I said about Lupe can also be applied here but I feel like I relate more to Lupe. Might be a generational thing, who knows.
#5 Weezy: Another one that might have fallen off in my eyes, but due to his track record, will always rate high in my rankings. And I'm sure we can all agree that back in his prime nobody was touching him, or getting close to him. Nobody!!

Man i couldn't figure out an order but these are my top five.
Jay Z: he’s got a style and flow that’s kept fans followin from young to old. the original hova, it’s game ova, verbalizing life, his soul, he ain’t sold’ya. real as real can get, besides all that this the man that gets beyonce wet.
Nas: smooth tempo when spittin knowledge. deep intellect teachin life like college, the parts history left out. true to the core witout a doubt. remindin the world, what the world’s about.
Eminem: a linguistic phenomenon. the way he twists thangs up, i mean c’mon. no one before no one after, well, some of his last shit is kind of a disaster, but still, unique as the view from every window sill. each jam a new perspective, if i gotta pick an alive top five, this man’s elected.
Method Man: rough and raspy rap OG got verbs like shots from an uzi. takin destinies and wakin dreams. a tough renegade no tricks up his sleeve. he blows up the spot wit tongue grenades. competition fades in the aftermath, wu tang baby, ya’ll know the name.
Mos Def: freestyle genius, i mean this, give the man a mic and he’ll defeat it. leave it depleted. he’s been in the game for years and still has rhymes for days. only time he stops is when the mic’s about to drop.
Well, I'm probably showing my age, but in my opinion these folks had the most influence on me and over the years I've seen a lot of their influence in the evolution of rap in general. In full disclosure I am way out of date when it comes to rap and am not familiar with most people who've come out in the last 10 years or so. So here is my list:
Jalil Hutchins (Whodini)
Favorite song: Big Mouth
The album 'Escape' should be required listening for any rapper in my opinion. Big Mouth, 5 Minutes of Funk, Freaks Come out at Night etc. This was my first tape I ever owned given to me for my birthday by my sister.
Richard Martin Lloyd Walters (Slick Rick)
Favorite song: La Di Da Di
Slick Rick and Doug E Fresh basically redefined the sound of rap music when he hit the scene. Growing up in Dayton Ohio every kid in in the neighborhood was jamming to Rick the Ruler! It's kind of funny because being British he rapped with an accent which got picked up as a style by many American rappers at the time, and you can still hear elements of it today.
Treach (Naughty by Nature)
Favorite Song: Hip Hop Hooray
When OPP came out in 1991, anyone and everyone knew the phrase whether they knew the song or not. Hip Hooray was the jam. If you watch the video, the style, look and sound pretty much sums up that whole era of my life!
Louis Freese (B-Real, Cypress Hill)
Favorite Song: How I Could Just Kill a Man or Stoned is the Way of the Walk
In my opinion Cypress Hill pioneered the loopy, scratchy rugged sample based sound of the early 90s. With B-Real's unique voice no one had ever heard anything like it when it came out. I think their first album was their best.
Marshall Mathers (Eminem)
Favorite song: Too many to name
Whether you like him or not, Eminem is a phenomenal rapper, lyricist and performer. He has gotten a lot of love and hate over the years but regardless his style and delivery has been constantly copied but never quite duplicated.
