RE: [Acid Streams] Powerleveling Tauren Paladin Tank

in #dlive7 years ago

Dlive should be worked on really.
Hi @acidyo i'm about to start out with my friend and hopefully get a level 100 account by the time legion comes out. wondering if you had any advice on what heirloom gear to get:

I'm going prot pally and he is going a dps cloth (mage or lock, not sure yet) any advice you could give would be so awesome thank you!

Sort:

There's only a few sets of heirloom gear.

Prot pally wants the strength plate set, any of the strength 1-handed weapons (mace, axe, sword), and the strength shield.

Mage or Lock wants the intellect cloth set WITHOUT spirit, and the 2-handed intellect staff.

You can buy these either with gold in Undercity/Ironforge OR with Darkmoon Faire tickets at the DMF. There are also some slots that can only be filled with items you get from the Guild vendor. To get them you need to be in a guild that has achieved the necessary milestone/achievement, AND that character buying them needs to have sufficient guild rep.

Note that the base heirlooms only level with your character up to level 60, to upgrade them to the longer-usefulness versions you need a consumable item bought from those same vendors. There's 4 consumables at the vendor: one for armor and one for weapons, for both the level 90 upgrade and the level 100 upgrade.

The upgrade consumable is applied to the master button for an heirloom in the heirloom collection's window. When you do so, all copies of that specific heirloom on all your characters will be automatically upgraded to match.

The level 90 upgrade (one per master heirloom button you want to upgrade) costs more than the initial price of the heirloom, almost double. But for 30 more levels of usefulness, it's kinda worth it if you can afford it.

The level 100 upgrade costs more than the price of the level 90 upgrade, nearly double again. For that much, for just 10 levels of usefulness, it's rather pointless for most people unless they have tons of gold to burn.

I agree with @neduejianya. I wonder what could possibly be the reason @acidyo for the dropped frames. It could be frustrating.
@neduejianya. Well there's two choices for you, Tank Plate (Burnished X of Might) or DPS Plate (Polished Y of Valor).

Now just skimming over their toolips the differences between them seem to be negligible now that stats like dodge and parry are removed. One is haste + some crit, one is all crit. Maybe the stat scaling on them is different though, I don't know. I thiiink haste is better for prot pally but I also don't think it's a big deal at a low level. I remember tanking through dungeons in Intellect Plate for a while. It was fine until about Lich King content, but around then you should be replacing a couple of heirlooms anyway..* This was also before the stat squish so you might not want to try that.

It looks like heirlooms now cap out (stop scaling with you) at 60, unless you upgrade them. If possible at least put them to 90

I could go through the rest but there is only 1 heirloom set for each role. Also I think strength DPS set is more versatile because its stats help both tanking and dps, whereas bonus armor heirlooms don't do much for a ret pally. So it's really up to you.

If you can only afford a few pieces, weapons don't give you an XP boost and misc gear like rings/neck/trinkets are just gravy. Chest/pants/helm are the most powerful, with shoulders behind a little.
