If you look at the Dev Team of Lino it's pretty much exclusively Chinese developers who've all got US and some British University Academic credentials.
These are Universities cited such as George Washington University, Berkeley, Oxford University, UCLA, Carnegie Mellon University, Columbia, NYU, USC, Stanford. The only Chinese University cited is Zhejiang.
There are virtually no other ethnicities on this Dev team.
If you look at the funding it is mainly Chinese Money behind Lino.
This raises some questions.
Lino like every other protocol is stating it is trying to build a Decentralized Global Content Economy. At the same time China is very actively persecuting dissidents at home, and bringing in a social media credit score to control the actions and movement of its People. This includes controlling the behaviour and loyalty of its students abroad by virtue of threatening their families back at home in China should they be disloyal to the Chinese Government.
So if you are Chinese and you move outside China to somewhere like the USA you are still very much under pressure to conform to Chinese Governmental positions. None of which are compatible with the notion of Decentralization or Anonymity or Individual Freedom of Expression / Political thought.
My specific question is that if all these Devs lived in the US for the four or five years it took to get their academic credentials at these premier US institutions, then surely they would have made friendships with a variety of other ethnic groups at those Universities? There must have been equally talented programmers and computers scientists who were of English, American, Indian, African, European, Eastern European, Native America etc. lineage. If so, then why is the Dev team of this Protocol (which appears to be based in the US), so heavily balanced towards one ethnic group? Are they racially biased against other ethnicities or is it just purely that Chinese programmers are somehow magically better than anyone else in the world?
If your Dev team itself (i.e the very core of your offering) is highly targeted to one ethnicity, and to an ethnicity that is vulnerable to an extremely high level of control from the Government that it comes from, then how exactly do you build a Decentralized platform built on freedom of ideas for the benefit of everyone in the world?
Good points, and I'd just like to point out the obvious and be the first to say that a lot of people are still really fucking nationalistic and racist and are okay with the status quo, not everyone has to be forced to do things, though that just adds an extra level of security in the eyes of the state. Hell, I'm a bit of a huge fucking racist if I do say so myself, because everyone's a wanker.
