Chefchaouen is a city in the north of Morocco. The original name of the city is Ashaun, the most ancient province of Amazigh. It is the newest province of Chefchaouen by law No. 688.75.1 of 23 April 1975. The city of Chefchaouen was founded in 1471 by Ali bin Rashid to house the Muslims of Andalusia By the Spaniards; Where as a fortress for the Mujahideen against colonialism. Location

This area became a center for the gathering of armies. In the reign of Adarsa (9th century), the region became under the reign of Omar bin Idris II, who made Fez the capital of his empire. Thus, the region was known for the occurrence of various wars and conflicts until the establishment of the city of Chefchaouen in 876 AH / 1471 AD by Moulay Ali bin Rashid, to stop the Portuguese encroachment on the region.
