Facebook knows a lot about me - here's everything I found | CNBC

in #dlike6 years ago

share-with-dlike.jpg

The fact that a mainstream outlet like CNBC published something like this is sort of a news on its own. It also legitimize these issues in the eyes of average masses. Here is a short list of what author dug up:

  • It can recognize my face
  • It knows every ad topic I've ever clicked
  • It has a list of every company that has my contact information from the ads I've clicked
  • It has a list of every contact in my phone book
  • It knows every social event I was invited to and/or attended through Facebook
  • It has a log of every friend I have on Facebook and when we became friends
  • It knows every time I logged in
  • It has a copy of my timeline going back to the time I joined
  • It knows my major life events
  • It knows every video I've watched on Facebook
  • It has old messages
  • It has a copy of every photo I've ever uploaded

Facebook knows some of these things because you have unwisely given such information to FB. But compare that with what STEEM and its front ends know about you. Another terrible thing is the amount of accounts you have made and already forgotten. https://www.deseat.me can help you with that. Give the website a go. I've written about it some time ago for STEEM Hunt.

Hi @vimukthi,

Exactly. This is what is known as data scrubbing and Facebook shares, sells and monetize all the data to marketing agencies and other profiting organizations. This is what exactly happens when we use a FREE platform created by these companies.

The fact about decentralized platforms is that the community and its content creators get realistically paid for what they contribute. Thanks for recommending deseat.me, so I can stand up on my own again! :D

Dear @tysler

I love how responsive you are buddy.

Dear my friend @vimukthi, i got from @crypto.piotr the link of your post because he is evaluating best writers and i agree with him your choice. Regarding FB i always say what you are writing, it is even a shit that someone can post your presence somewhere without your consent, FB is bullshit!

Other social media aren't that better either. Things like Snapchat also promotes way too much vanity and Twitter can easily get very toxic.

Hi @intellihandling, @vimukthi

It's very kind that you mentioned my name. Appreciate.

FB is bullshit!

I wonder if Steemit Inc. will ever follow their footsteps. I believe it's just a matter of time before we will introduce ads to Steemit and then they will work on targeting ads, which will result in collecting our data.

What do you think?

Have a great weekend ahead,

hi @vimukthi

I cannot tell that I enjoyed reading your post as it really saddens me, that we people are being treated by corporations as a product.

As you've probably noticed I shared your post with some of my Steemit friends (I could say "followers" but I dont like the sound of it) and Im glad to see that you're engaging with them.

Keep up with good work. You're creating loads of content which makes it hard to catch up. But I will do my best to visit your blog from time to time.

All the best @vimukthi

Piotr

Even I got your memo about my post. This is one of the posts I thought of being least likely to get attention. IMO I've produced much better content. Somehow this ended up being my most commented post thanks to you.

Dear @vimukthi

I've been scrolling for like 2-3 minutes through my newsfeed and this particular post actually brought my attention

Funny that sometimes we may think that some post should do very well and attract attention and we end up disappointed. And sometimes we get traffic to content that isn't in our opinion worth it.

Just few weeks ago my partner recorded some silly video with out little puppy dog and uploaded it on her instagram. I didn't think that there is anything great about it. But within 3 days we reached over 100k views and we went "viral".

I then realized that what matters the most is not how interesting or important content is.

The most important thing to consider creating content is: will people have anything to say about it? does it "touch" in any way their lifes? Only those kind of posts are building excitement.

If I would post something about future of tokenization of property market, what would happen? That's a super interesting and big subject. It may change dynamic in the biggest market in the world. And I would think: THIS IS SUCH A GREAT TOPIC.

Would this topic enjoy big engagement? Would people resteem it? I hardly doubt so. Why? For 2 big reasons:

  • most people could not relate themself to this subject at all
  • it doesnt create any emotions

Your post does. So promoting it has been very simple and easy. Simply because everyone have something to say :)

Wouldn't you agree?

Enjoy your weekend my friend,
Piotr

Hi again @vimukthi

Quite a number of quality comment here, right? :)

Cheers
Piotr

Just another reason Steemit will succeed!

Yep. We really are early adopters.

@vimkuthi, I have actually done some research on this earlier this year when I followed up on the incident where Mark Zuckerberg sold facebook data to an advertising company. The whole scandal actually slipped my mind until @crypto.piotr sent me a memo detailing the content of your post. Reading this has brought back some info that I read up on...

I did watch a few hours worth of youtube videos that was about the court session that took place where Mark Zuckerberg was questioned about his actions. It was actually quite scary at the fact that they control so much info and can do just about anything because they have enough money to pay their way out of many illegal activities. I remember so many people were like, "He's and alien" or "He is a psho, no emotion..." and that was somewhat funny. I had facebook for about 4/5 months, but it was only for playing Clash of Clans (for the friend list :D), but I deleted it because my mum posted a few embaressing pics of me and tagged me in them... So I deleted it because that was just so bad hahahaha.

I am a very paranoid person in nature... it runs in the family, so hearing all that happened I was glad that I didn't post anything during my time using the social networking site. I even went through a hectic phase covering my webcam with tape, but then realized a few months later that the government may already have so much recordings of everyone that I didn't bother with the tape.

Sorry for the long comment, but when talking about cyber security, breaches, hacking and regards to user information, I can go on forever... This was a great post, Upvoted and Resteemed :D

Hi @shadown99

I am a very paranoid person in nature...

That must be a bit hard. Im naive and I trust people. I burn myself a lot but I would not like to be paranoid. I can only imagine that life must be way harder.

I wonder if Steemit Inc. will ever follow their footsteps. I believe it's just a matter of time before we will introduce ads to Steemit and then they will work on targeting ads, which will result in collecting our data.

What do you think?

Have a great weekend ahead,

Piotr

Hey @crypto.piotr
I've actually learnt to live with my slightly paranoid nature :) It's not that hard when your mind is constantly thinking of every possible outcome lol... I have been told by a psychiatrist that I have psychopathic tendencies, but I am not one because I fear consequence... This actually helps in reality because my mind is very calculative so I think of all the possible outcomes to be able to find the best possible way to do something.... So life isn't actually that hard (well to me) because I tend to think a lot before doing anything :)

I would really hope that steemit remains the way it is and they don't introduce ads, because then it will obviously affect us negatively like what happened with Facebook...

Sorry about the late reply, I hope your weekend has been going well :D

Thanks for dropping by @shadown99

I'm so glad that I had a chance to get to know you lately. You're so very responsive and supportive. LOVE IT :)

I actually like long and detailed comments. You'd be even more paranoid if you knew about Facebook's patents. I've covered few of them before:
https://steemit.com/privacy/@vimukthi/special-alert-facebook-files-a-patent-to-turn-on-the-mic-without-your-knowledge-to-spy-on-your-tv-habits-or-does-anybody-know

https://steemit.com/facebook/@vimukthi/the-trail-of-facebook-patents-leading-to-its-atlas-shrugged-esque-end-the-new-tech-will-be-eating-some-profit-margins

The worst part is when you don't add any o your own info but your friends and family tag you onto everything.

That is some scary shit @vimukthi :/

They sure know alotta 'bout me. Thanks for the heads up @vimukthi and Piotr. 👍

That is the reason I don't click anything on facebook and usually don't go there - well, to promote my podcast because that is still where most people hang out. but I have high hopes for Steem and all the dapps that are already on it and soon will be.

This is just creepy... Creepy, and unnecessary! This amount of data collection is just ludicrous and you can’t tell me it improve advertising that much...

Posted using Partiko iOS

It really is creepy @southernwolf

I wonder how many people would feel uncomfortable knowing how much info FB collected about us. Personally I never really cared as I believe that im pretty much nobody. But Im sure there are people who cares about their privacy

Piotr

It does't matter if you are a nobody. There are always ways to nudge people in certain directions by controlling information.

This article has a lot of videos. The last few are very related to what I'm talking about and these stuff were more than 15 years old: https://steemit.com/gaming/@vimukthi/the-genius-and-the-prophecies-of-hideo-kojima-and-metal-gear-the-works-of-project-itoh-must-see-video-collection

Thanks for bringing my post to the attention of a lot of people :-)

This is true. Years ago I looked at how SERPs are different per location (google -.com - .nl -.ru -.de, etc.). Even wikipedia pages tell a different story depending on what language they are written in. I'll have a look at your post. Greetings!

Thank you for sharing this video with us @vimukthi

Im glad to see how responsive you are

Yours, Piotr

Depends on how far you stretch the definition. Getting people to buy or at least click on whatever they put up on the screen to make people buy propaganda will also be considered advertising.

What i really hated was when F-c-book started messing with my feed.

Showing me what they wanted me to see, and hiding things they didn't.
I went out of my way to follow certain things, and it often took a few clicks to get to the information i knew was there.

Next thing i really hate is that F-c-book provides no information.
Like, what is the proper size of your avatar image?
Can't find it on F-c-book.

They banned some of my favorite pages too and some of them weren't even really political.

I had very similar experience @builderofcastles, @vimukthi

Sometimes Im wondering if Steemit will not follow their footsteps ...

yours,
Piotr

STEEM Blockchain literally cannot be censored. But some things can be made harder to access (front end censoring or flags)

hi @vimukthi

Indeed STEEM cannot be censored. But Steemit can. Or am I wrong? I guess this is what you mean as a front end.

Yours
Piotr

It's not all that bad if you're living an open life.
Twitter is too noisy and Snapchat is all fake happiness.

Also while one person complains that Facebook knows too much, another is desperately hoping Facebook can give useful information. It goes both ways.

PS: There are now ways to permanently delete your data from Facebook. Most people just don't bother or won't take the time to follow the steps.

Dear @ulqu3

I love how responsive you are buddy. This platform definetly need more people as supportive as you are.

Have a great week ahead.

Cheers,
Piotr

@vimukthi, @crypto.piotr
Im not on facebook, there should be an ethical alternative. Until then steemit will do as a fun place to experiment with blocks and chains and social stuff... 😃

/FF

Hey @vimukthi I found you via @crypto.piotr. I think what you mentioned here is just the top of the iceberg. Honestly, we do not really want to know what they know about us.
I also believe that not just Facebook is the devil here. I think all companies start to source some data from you: e.g. Google, Apple, Microsoft just to name a few big ones.
I think blockchain can enable us to see what information get saved by whom for what purpose at what date. It will become more clear who is responsible for that.
I am curious how the next 10 years will look like, but it is also depending on us to create a great future.
Keep up the good work bud,

This is info is exactly what we need to know about how Facebook works @vimukthi your link was shared with me by my friend @crypto.piotr .. I read the complete info and that is really terrible, And I think this is really disappoint able ... nobody is safe in social media and I´m sure there are people who cares about their privacy but, Facebook thinks that they are the boss about you, how is that..? they can get all the info about your friends, photos, phone contacts ... everything and sells or do anything else with all of them. that is really shame, there is no privacy about us because billions of people use FB everyday, I´m sure the internet for now is really really dangerous for us, children, girls, students, everybody... If we can care about our family we can not post some important info on FB and can stop use it or use less.... FACEBOOK IS TOO PUBLIC PUBLIC PUBLIC ... Everybody knows everything about YOU..

Hi @edgarare1

It's very kind that you mentioned my name. Appreciate.

Facebook thinks that they are the boss about you, how is that..?

FB showed that we (humans) are final product for advertisers. Sad but real.

nobody is safe in social media and I´m sure there are people who cares about their privacy

I´m still thinking about your guess, and I´m think for now is a huge box as you said.

I´m mean for now Steemit is public and they are gathering information, but maybe in the future it could be changing.

You know, social media was created for that, and nothing is completely free in this life, that is the sad truth you know....

Im sorry for such a late reply @edgarare1

I just realized that I missed bunch of comments lately. Just wanted to thank you for keeping in touch with me.

Hopefully you had a great weekend,
Piotr

Don´t worry about that.... It is the for me, I mean missed a bunch of comments too...!!!

Have an amazing week and keep helping many people....!!!

What is scarier is that many people who were using and promoting the use of Facebook knew that the program was engaged in intense data mining of the platform.

People knew that Google made its money off datamining, yet they promoted it. We are engaged in societal self destruction.

Why do people promote the use of these things when it is clear they have clear intent.

I don't want Facebook datamining my every thought. I want that job handled by trustworthy people like @ned.

Google also reads you E-mails. It's not manually done. They just use their software and algorithms to better optimize your ads so that you'd click on them more.

Dear @vimukthi, I am not sure, how could fb get your phone book? If you don't give them the phone number? Maybe if you allow the access to its application on your smartphone, then yes.
But what you write is true, but when you realize this, when the data are already there, you can do nothing. But you might be more cautious in the future, where you give what information, for sure. I agree.

Btw. @crypto.piotr thanx for letting me know, its a good article!

Thanks for dropping by @ritxi :)

Facebook asks for your contacts telling you that they will find you your friend's accounts on Facebook. Most people just click yes and from then on FB has every single one of your contacts.

I still don't get your point here, I know about the option, but if you just give them the phone number, how they can get access to the phone book? And surely its better to not give them the phone number. But anyways, even Steemit asks you for your phone number (if you do not pay for your account) so they could somehow connect you to the real person, not just "someone, who might be a fake-account".
And LinkedIn is asking for your email address and password, to reach more of your friends, this is even more absurd, well more absurd is if someone give them the password for any stupid reason like this.

Facebook also asks for your E-mail to be connected. What they are looking for is your address book. As for contacts what they do is ask permission to access the contacts on your phone. Once you give the OK, FB copies all contacts and keep them in the database.

Facebook have your email address, but the connection is also optional. If anyone allows them to enter phone book and email address book, that is very irresponsible and scary at the same time. As if it is not enough that Google knows almost everything about you. Surely the protection of private data is important and will be more important in the future.

Thanks for dropping by @ritxi

I'm so glad that I had a chance to get to know you lately. You're so very responsive and supportive. LOVE IT :)

I don't imagine the size of the backup servers of these companies, to store all the garbage that one sees on Facebook. I have never been a fan of facebook and I have always suspected that this type of company controls our information. That is why I don't try to share much personal information through these means. I am sometimes paranoid ha ha ha.

FB, GOOGLE, MICROSOFT all these big data co.’s are personal privacy stealing wh*res

privacy stealing wh*res

Technically they are pimps. We are theones who are turned to wh*res (best case) or slaves/zombies/ NPCs: https://steemit.com/meme/@vimukthi/npc-the-most-accurate-meme-of-recent-times-and-its-main-roots-are-in-the-education-system

Big pimpins and they sure do get away with murder. Data mining and selling to third parties like it’s going out it style. How legit is the deseat.me thing you mentioned. I may gander with it see just how much they know about me

Posted using Partiko iOS

They use Google's OAuth protocol. they have no access to your login info. I used it to delete some of my own accounts. Here is their privacy policy. I still wound't give it on my main account I use for financial stuff. But then again, almost nobody even have that E-mail

Many many years ago, I just used facebook for the fun of it. Posted pics, sync my contacts, joined groups, attended events, even clicked on some ads. Little did I know that facebook stores all this and use this to get me to buy stuffs. They make money from me, and what do I get from them? Just images of my own friends. Hmm kinda sad. If they're going to keep selling to me and "selling me out", the least they could do is reward us for it.

So not cool that they don't 🤔

Hi @ced000

It's great to see how supportive and responsive you are

Steemit absolutely need more users like you.

Cheers,
Piotr

The people moderately informed must meet the risks to which ae exposes when register and use an account in a social network.

I used FB for several years as a fun, to know what do my contacts and express my ideas and emotions. But that was my mistake, ignore the effects that involves provide too much information in a social network. We are in the era of the marketing of emotions and those who manage these social networks know as get advantage of the data supplied its users.

I am not paranoid, but sometimes I think we are as a Guinea pigs of a great social experiment. The information of each one is irrelevant for them, However it is very important the segmentation that achieve with all the data set users. The information is power and empowers. I think they have been used it as for the design of electorals propaganda and for the marketing of concepts. That Is the most expedited way to modify behaviors that expected of users. Thanks to @crypto.piotr the invitation to read this post and comment about this controversial topic

Another amazing commet :)

yeah.
I didn't knew that facebook knows about me but as soon as I downloaded my data from facebook, it showed me that they have every single contact, photo, video, and even text messages. I was surprised by that and now I feel less secure on facebook.

It is quite disturbing, isnt it @arslan786?

yep. I was shocked to see my personal photos saved on the facebook server. But now I can't do anything about it.

That is a sad truth. But you can be more cautious the next time, right? And I hope we all shall be.

Hello, @vimukthi, I received from @ crypto.piotr the link to your post, I think your list fell short with all the information that facebook knows about you, your family environment, your work, your tastes, your ways of dressing, They almost know what you're pessing.

Dear @rigmelendez3

I love how responsive you are buddy. This platform definetly need more people as supportive as you are.

ps. Thx for mentioning my name buddy. Have a great week ahead.

I left FB sometime ago to comcentrate on steemit. I hate that it has so much info. On me even though I was careful. I didn't give it my date of birth. But I fear it will have found it in some way or other. I just stare at my friends who say I have nothing to hide so why sbould I worry what it knows about me. They need help and all I can do is shake my head. 😎

maybe you have shared more on Steemit than you realize. we know which Island you live on. What your yard looks like and your neighbours. Your cats, your flowers, your feet, your airport, the places you visit, what you look like and your wife. How many people resteem your stuff and who resteems that. Who are they? Do you know them? Maybe someone thinks your worth pursuing. You could be the next fatal attraction. just saying. If you want to be safe, get off social media and dont use computers for living. Dont be fooled by Steemit, which BTW is easily shared on Facebook, I am sure you have noticed this. So I can resteem your Steemit post and post it to Facebook and 700 of my friends can share it across the Universe who share it with 700 more and so on and son on. User beware my friend.

You Make a fair point Marion. But for some reason I feel more in control on Steemit. I know there are some bad selfish people here like there are in all walks of life. But here using the blockchain we can become a very powerful influence in the world. On face book you are just another slave to the advertiser. Steemit had the potential to really change peoples lives in a very positive way. It might not seem like it now but the platform is still very much in its infancy. I have no one here who reposts my stuff to fb. We have to fight an ourdated unfair governmental system somehow. And a social media that is not censored and hands power to its contributors is a good start. Big up the Steem 😎😎

Posted using Partiko Android

Andy, Andy, Andy. you have not idea who puts your stuff on Facebook. I can put your comment you just gave me above on my Facebook account and yu would never know. NEVER. I know you have not seen what I have seen here or read what I have. Either you have not taken the time nor wish to. The difference here is you can not get rid of these people nor block them, nor can you deactivate. If something is free to do as I wish I should be able to do as I wish. I can't. That is just it. For some reason I feel this is pushed down my throat and marketed just like everything else. LIke what gas to use, what coffee to drink, which bank, who to vote for etc etc etc. There is no privacy and you are not protected is all I am saying. That was your point and that is my reply. Do not fool yourself into believing that you are safe. I actually feel I have no control. Since I can not really get rid of scammers. As far as helping people that is a different entity. We were discussing your privacy. Plus...everybody can see what you write. Is that privacy? Anyways, you mind is made up. So be it....

The power is not in the contributors hands. The power is in the hands of the Whales who have invested their capitol from a different source. Oh, so say like this world. They have created something different. But it still has rules. Sure uncensored sort of, but censored in another way. Just like any other organization, this is helping someone and some people are getting very rich on this.

We can't say that all whales are bad, The same way you can't say all ruch people are bad. But here we may have a chance to put together more good rich people than bad, and make some changes. Thats all I am saying. Oh and have some fun on the way 😎

Posted using Partiko Android

No..and I do not think I implied that. I just was stating how I believe from what I read what really got this going. Sadly however, no one can leave this even if they want to stop. You can not deactivate and all the smut and naughtiness and dirties are on here forever. No way to disappear.

Dont try to justify or interact with A holes. They are not worth you time. Stick with me check out the nice people I have found over the last week. I may not understand how the blockchain or even crypto really works but its going to be fun trying. We have started so lets see where this goes. I know you always look at the positive, dont change because of fools and idiots. 😁😁

Posted using Partiko Android

Worst part is that your friends have probably uploaded a great deal of details about you. Remember, FB can recognize your face once it has been tagged. Last time I heard the algorithm was over 97% accurate under normal conditions.

Thanks for that then.lol. Yes that is the worst part that your friends can give it information about you and you have no control. Thanks for the link to unseatme. Have just deleted heaps of accounts. Many were done in the very early years of the internet and were lin forgotten. It will take time to go through all my old mail accounts. But its quite fun. Although i feel the damage is already done.

thanks @crypto.piotr for the info

There are 2 approaches to this problem.

  1. Stay off the I'net.
  2. Overload them with a barrage of machine generated, search engine friendly nonsense, .. 24/7.

Referral from @crypto.piotr Thank you Piotr!

thx for mentioning my name @onnovocks :)

have a great weekend ahead buddy, Piotr

Besides using the personal data for their own end, FB also engages in business practices that I would consider unethical. For instance, assuming you have a FB page and you advertised on FB for followers. Having got your followers do not assume that your followers would automatically view your postings on their feed. FB does not allow your followers to organically view your postings in their feed. FB controls what your followers view in their feed. You will need to pay FB again to show your posting in your followers' feed!

In addition, remember that FB also owns Whatsapp. The moment you post a message on Whatsapp, within seconds you will see a related advertisement shown on your FB feed. That's is how efficient they are in using your personal data!

Thanks to @crypto.piotr for pointing me to this post.

Hi @devann

The need for steemit to introduce ads may not arise. A few days back I read a blog post by @taskmaster4450 in which he said,

"On the livestream last week, Ned made it clear that he is not going to be focusing upon the social media end of things. That means that Steemit.com is not going to get any updates and the Destiny project is shelved.

There was a time when Steemit.com served a purpose. As the flagship application, this was the one that allowed the blogging platform to come into being. That time has passed. We now see a variety of other applications that not only serve the same function, but do it better with more features. Two that are garnering users are Busy.org and @steempeak. Both of these are better interfaces with a lot more features. In short, they provide a much better user experience."

Here is the link: https://steemit.com/busy/@taskmaster4450/it-is-time-to-stop-using-steemit-com

I have started using steempeak.com and busy.org. In addition I am also encouraging the admins of FB groups (of which I am a member) to have a look at busy.org, steempeak.com and 1ramp.io.

Have a great weekend.

Devann

Thank you @devann for your comment.

I really wish to know how Ned is planning to cover costs of maintaining servers etc of Steemit platform. Without bringing businesses into this platform.

Hopefully other apps will follow different path and will create demand for STEEM. Thank you for that link. I already do not like sound of the title :)

ps.
Are post and comments published on Steemit visible also via steempeak.com ? and the other way around? If I comment something using steempeak.com - will it be also on Steemit?

How does it work?

I have not paid much attention to it but I have seen my postings on busy.org and steempeak.com in steemit.com.

However, whatever I post on dlike.io appears on steemit.com but not the other way around.

Thank You for the suggestion of this video @crypto.piotr and Thank you @vimukthi for this valuable post.

You gave the real fact of FB and that's why I am not using Fb right now. This is very creepy and unsafe social media and this site is turning into a stupid platform. I do not criticize anybody or anything but in this case I can not support this site.

And you gave the real fact and issues of this site. Thank you for sharing this :)

@crypto.piotr :)
@vimukthi :)

Dear @sourav96roy21

Seriously its great to see how responsive you are. Steemit indeed need more people like you.

Have a great sunday ahead
Piotr

Thank You so much @piotr :)

And I am following a expert steemian like you so that I love to be active on steemit most of the time. And I get much love and care specially from you and some other guys, and steemit community is also very good for specially the fresher.

Thanks again dear poitr, for your supporting behavior :)

I am also coming here thanks to @crypto.piotr. What a powerful method this is for engagement!

Apparently, Walmart takes your photo each time you walk in and also has a lot of this info. Amazon is another one to watch out for in this regard.

I use fb for work, and I have about 1400 "friends" and know maybe 20 of them in person. I'm in 800 groups over there on many topics. Have at it, fb. Tell me what you think of me now lol.

I long ago decided that the bad guys know all about me and therefore stopped hiding and use all my real information everywhere. I used to take a lot of time protecting myself but now I just change passwords every so often.

The good guys don't care to hurt me, or will be helpful when I need help. The bad guys are much more evil than I will ever know. They are the 1% and I just don't worry about them until they are right up in my face coming at me. Then I scream like hell and run. So far, so good.

Dear @fitinfun

Thank you very much. I am in a slump now but I keep trying.

Facebook is selling our personal information and google is doing the same thing. In fact, I searched for some products on google (in desktop or laptop) and later when I checked my Facebook app on my mobile, it showed me the exact products' ads which I had searched using google. This happened many times. Even Facebook suggests me friends who were once known to me but I had no contact with them for years.
This is the start of the dystopian future. We are living in a world where nothing is private.

Yep. FB is treating us (people) as a final product for sale @akdx :(

Sorry dear I am very busy these days. I am not finding time for Steemit and other social media platforms. I'll reply to you asap.

@crypto.piotr always send me some link/articles that are worth reading and commenting .
In reality, I am done with FB and do not use it more due to all these reasons. I guess it does not add any value in your life.

Hi @r1s2g3

It's great to see how supportive and responsive you are

Steemit absolutely need more users like you.

Cheers,
Piotr

Wow!!! I'm really impressed with this information. It's terrible. More than impressed, maybe I should say scared.
Thanks @ crypto.piotr, for referring me to this post. Thanks @vimukthi for this publication, which is an alert for us, the unsuspecting users.

I absolutely love to see how resposive your are @mllg

This platform need more people like you. And thank you for mentioning my name :) I appreciate.

Yours, Piotr

Thanks for answer. You referred very good posts.
Thanks.

It's really a new thing for me you shared (I'm talking about the website).
As far as the comparison of steemit and facebook is concerned.
Let me tell you about my point of view. Facebook was just like trash for me because I wasted so many useful hours just by scrolling even though I had idea about it but still I went on scrolling news feed. The other side effect was, almost all the post were consisted of memes or some on the politics which create negativity. I'm not calling it useless for everyone. But I'm just sharing my point of view that people post on fb without thinking the impact they are creating.
On the other hand, let me tell you about myself before steemit. I'm a kind of person who loves learning. I don't concern with the money most of the time. If I'm learning something I even do things for free. For me learning=Enjoyment & Fun. So when I came on steemit (I think 22 June of this year), I just had an idea that it's a new thing so let's try it. I knew that when I'll know complete about it I'll lose interest because there will be nothing new for me to learn. But time passes and learning never stops. A special thanks will be to utopian.io because now I have the urge to learn how to code. I want to be a developer because I've never been a programmer and I seek to learn in it. In short, I got a number of ideas from this platform that there's a lot of things to learn. And I'll got even more ideas in future I know.

As far as security reasons are concern, I really never posted my personal data on Facebook so I'm not afraid of anything about that. But I see steemit as a more professional platform to share thoughts and ideas. And people even help others.
I'm happy that I came here.
@crypto.piotr

Dear @numanbutt

This is one of the most valuable comment I've read here so far.

I love how responsive you are buddy. This platform definetly need more people as supportive as you are.

ps. Thx for mentioning my name buddy. Have a great week ahead.

Cheers,
Piotr

Hi @vimukthi

I really feel uncomfortable with that fact. I have recently read that AI basing on data we share on facebook can get to know us as precise as our family. It's horrible.

Psst, thank you @crypto.piotr for recommending me this guy, I will definitely follow him :)

Greetings,
Jan

Great to see your comment Janek the @neavvy :)

Hello there!

I beg to disagree and agree on some points..

First, it is in NO WAY that FB knows more about me. For one thing, FB does not even know my full name or why I even bother using a pet name in the first place! It came to a point that I am no longer into posting to FB my private and personal life. I realized that a little late though because when I was younger I did post a few... uhhmm okay i had posted a lot!! But, I never give out too much personal information. I never do want to be in public eye.

Second, not everything we see in FB are true. Sometimes people only post what they want others to believe the life they are having. But truth is, it was the opposite. Most people dont quite see the logic yet and they are still caught in the bubble wrap.

Third, some people are not aware that they are mistakenly giving out information to FB without them knowing. Its really important to read first before clicking and not the other way around.

Actually, we should be very vigilant in being online everywhere not just in FB. As long as you are connected to the NET, it will get your personal data no matter what. 😉

Cheers!

Pretty much i came to very same point already. I hardly care about posting anything there.

Seriously great comment.

Hi there sir @crypto.piotr!!

I'm so glad that I had a chance to get to know you lately. You're so very responsive and supportive. LOVE IT :)

Hehehe.. I just have the time to respond these days. Wait till my busy months and you wint feel me this often. I like it when people keep getting the communication line longer. No matter how long it takes, what matters is you dont ignore waiting messages for a reply.

And yes, lets practice the not posting real information about us in FB or any multi-media there is.. We dont need to shout to the world what we are going through. Likes wont give you the same success one will be getting in life..

interesting information! very good!

Greetings from Venezuela!

I did a deep dive of the Fakebook security settings and they were not pleasant. You can remove, at least for that moment (they probably have backups to ensure they don’t lose any money by you deleting it!) a lot of the likes, interests and algorithm compiled info. I basically scrubbed my whole profile, deleted people, comments, posts and everything. Took me about 5 hours to do it all.

I regret ever uploading pics there, FB is shit can you imagine that here in Nigeria, if someone calls you or do any thing that involves number you can easily track the person through FB if he or she have used the number for FB.

Yes, facebook is a piece os shit. We should create in event in facebook to tell people abour facebook "politics"and show STEEMIT as an alternative to that crap.

Hi @duarte9sousa

Yes, facebook is a piece os shit

Wow. Straight to the point :)

Ah, well, I was very late to come on-board with Facebook, so by the time I created my FB account, most of these pernicious practices were already known or at least strongly suspected. So I have been very cautious. I only have a FB account at all because it's necessary here in Argentina.

FB cannot recognise my face because I have never uploaded a picture of myself. To the best of my knowledge and belief, there are no unmasked pictures of me anywhere online. If you look at my intro post here on Steemit, I am wearing shades and the date sign is covering the bottom half of my face.

Facebook only knows as much about you as you tell it. I don't post major life events, or add many friends, or get invited to social events. And the only photos I have ever uploaded to FB are in the public domain, such as the picture of the Gur-e-Amir that I use as background, which is from Wikimedia.

For the record, I am here at the request of crypto.piotr

Dear @redpossum

Not only FB but also facebook is collecting lot of data including what we have searched on google. This is posing as a serious threat to privacy. Actually we have very good alternatives to google and facebook. In privacy cases, government authorities can't force companies much but we the people can. People who don't want their data to be stolen can move to alternatives like DuckDuckGo for Google and our very own steemit for facebook!!
But many don't know about websites like DuckDuckGo and steemit. Thanks to crypto.piotr for sending the link. I got to see this and provide opinion. Please use the websites I mentioned. They don't extract data. I have personally used them. If you don't care about your privacy, you can ignore my comment.

Dear @n1hal

You wrote:

Ehm, I've lost you here. Isn't FB and facebook same thing? :) I wonder what you wanted to say.

ps. Thx for mentioning my name buddy. Have a great week ahead.

Oh I am really sorry I wanted to type Google. Must have swallowed it.

That is a pretty long list and actually quite scary, if you think of it.

That's why fb's days are over, I think. Steemit and its dapps would soon take over fb, insta and others.

Posted using Partiko Android

I also see it same way @himalayannomad

That's why fb's days are over

Maybe FB days are not 100% over, but golden days surely finished for this platform.
Maybe not 100% over, but surely golday

Most free to use sites are like this they might promise privacy but yheir really is no privacy even using vpns and proxies has no real privacy does it hide you from your isp yes but it lands on the vpn provider instead

There are few blockchain VPN alternatives popping up. Let's hope they'd get popular fast with good infrastructure.

first time hearing about this can you reply with some links to related articles and such

cool will check them out as soon as my pc is fixed

Not Just FB, But mostly all sites that require account always receive and keep the personal information, you have to fill up and agreement is given to support them in such cases.

Hackers usually attack crowded and Public sites which had many vulnerabilities. Most sites are more focus on what we so-called "Fair Policy" and Forgotten to focus on security. Sites like FB are now being used to bully and sometimes for scamming and blackmailing people. The Main Reason was that everyone can create account disregard to people existence, they only use emails and phone numbers which can be easily created by many scammers and Bad person. This lead to some crimes like rape, kidnap, scam and sometimes blackmailing.

That is probably one of the reason it is best to stay away from social media if you are not prepared to be a public face to the world that can anytime track you, judge you or even scrutinize your life; and you are not affected by it.

yeah maybe with Facebook all photos and videos can be stored neatly, but fb can't give different rewards with steemit ... I think so greetings from me 😊

It should be a known fact now to all fb, google etc.. that when you started using these platforms resulted to selling your soul to this company.

Educating the value of personal information, data is as important as money or property.

Stay safe with your data, and accepts consequences.
