A South African who won the opportunity to be the primary dark African in space has kicked the bucket in a motorbike mishap before transforming his fantasy into the real world.
Mandla Maseko, 30, was killed on Saturday, a family articulation says.
In 2013, the South African Air Force part beat one million contestants to win one of 23 places at a space foundation in the US.
Nicknamed Afronaut and Spaceboy, Maseko portrayed himself as a run of the mill township kid from Pretoria.
A large number of those paying tribute to Maseko via web-based networking media recollected his monikers affectionately.
