There's often value in basic household items people overlook when tossing them. I want to show examples to learn from, so we cut down on waste and make some money in the process.
Many societies condition us to toss something to buy a new one or better replacement. Demand exists all over the world for these items even if they don't work or are just parts.
Many things can easily be adjusted or easily repaired to restore to full value. If not, they can be sold in parts for often more than the original item itself. With just a little effort, this really adds up.
The purpose of the examples below is to give people ideas and inspiration for recycling some basic items and making money from it.
20 Curb-Recycled Free Items Sold for $930 (value in revenue before fees)
Empty Hermes Tie Boxes - $59
Sewing Machine I fixed a simple issue with - $105
Vacuum Power Nozzle - $65
Electric Vacuum Hose - $50
Stroller Seat Frame - $82
Dehumidifier Water Tank - $50
Textbook - $50
Men's Electric Shaver - $40
Stroller Arm Bar - $43
Textbook - $40
Coffee Grinder Motor Set For Parts - $33
Medical Study Book Set - $45
Brand New Mug - $22
Floor Scrubber Turbine For Parts - $30
Oven Control Board For Parts - $35
Power Conditioner Display Panels - $28 - sold to the keyboard player of a world famous rock band!
Coffee Machine Display Panel - $39
Vacuum Floor Attachment - $35
Stroller Frame Part - $45
Untested Sony Digital Camera - $34
Once again, $930 / 20 = $46.50 of average revenue per item. It's a no brainer.
Goals:
- Rewarding fun work with happy customers helping me save items from being wasted.
- No-risk money earned to support myself.
- Educate others on how to gain more financial independence by helping the environment.
Win-win-win.
Once you sell one thing, you'll see how easy this is. Give it a try.
I have plenty more to show and am constantly selling these types of recycled items. Feel free to peruse my blog for past posts and follow to keep in touch!

ok I got a question!
which smart person would let go of most of these stuff man!? :O
Not sure, but I'm happy to be smart enough to pick up their mistakes!
He’ll yeah dude
Some of those don’t even need to get fixed! 😄
How long does it usually take to sell the items you find ? I mean of course it will different depending on the item, but generally speaking
Most items I find sell in 1-14 days of the date I put them up for sale. Many sell within 1-3 days because they're hard to find discontinued items that are in high demand.
The turnover is mainly a function of my price point. I could sell anything within whatever time frame if I wanted. I don't do auctions, so I set a price target and adjust the price slightly as I monitor the view and watch counts. Some random things may take 6 months, with outliers being more, but it's because it's super uncommon and potentially priced high on purpose.
I try to take things that aren't too big and that I know will turn over relatively well. I don't want to have a big backlog of valuable large slow-selling things because I have to be space efficient. I do get stuck with larger things for a while, but my direction is going in more of the smaller items for shipping ease and lower costs.
Cool 😎 do you use one type of posting service or different kinds depending on how fast the customer wants it ? Do you have to go to a post office or do they pick up the packages ?
I strategically live 2.5 blocks from a United States Post Office and half a block from a FedEx pickup point. The main FedEx office is also an 8 minute walk from me. I'm bouncing around to those locations once or twice a day Monday-Saturday. It's as easy as it can be.
I use USPS for most, but use FedEx whenever it's cheaper for larger items. FedEx seems to have better rates for larger packages going to farther destinations.
I find a lot of stuff as well, but I can't bother to sell them(even I hate to sell), I just take only that I really need or may I know who needs that stuff. In UK we leave the stuff that we don't need any more outside the house for someone to pick up.
It's cool that you're savvy enough to grab some stuff if you could use it or share it with a friend in need. Little things like that help the environment and save people money since they wouldn't have to go buy it. Thanks for your comment.
I buy things only if I really need or I can't find in the street. My Friends always asks me to find something for them- just need patience. I found it more fun than shopping.
Heck yeah man, love these posts.
I have looked up peoples names before, once I sold a pack of camcorder cassettes to a rap video film dude in NYC.
Are you checking the value of items you're unfamiliar with before you take them? Or are you taking a risk on some things and hoping for the best?
Many things I know the value of from experience, but I do try to look up and value everything I find to make sure it’s worth the effort of carrying it around as I continue. Sometimes I leave things if they’re not an optimal mix of value, size/weight and potential sales rate.
Nice finds! Who is this world famous rock star keyboard player that you sold something to? :)
Thank you and glad you caught that little detail. I have to keep my lips sealed for their privacy as a buyer.
