Happy New Year Y'all,
I thought I would share this quick little repair I did with y'all as I am sure I was not the only one who has had this happen to them. About two weeks ago I was cleaning out the back of our Jeep as it was getting quite full of "stuff". This is typically a biweekly thing for me as it seems that the back of our Jeep is always getting full of stuff. There are empty water bottles, those "extra" shopping bags that you seem to get when going grocery shopping, and all manner of other junk. So, anyways, I digress.....
As I am cleaning out the back of the Jeep I start to hear a hissing noise and for the life of me I cannot seem to figure out where it was coming from... and then it hits me! Quite literally, it hits me. The rear hatch or lift gate of the Jeep just comes down on my head! it turns out the passenger side lift strut gave out and the litigate is too heavy for just the other working lift strut to hold it up.
That is why I thought I would do a quick little how-to video on replacing the rear lift struts. This is one thing anyone can do whether or not you are mechanically inclined or not. All I needed to do this was the new lift struts which any auto parts store should carry. The ones I bought cost me about $30 bucks for the pair. Once you get the proper struts then all you need to do is find something or someone to hold the lift gate up while you change them out. The only other item you will need is a flat head screwdriver with a small-ish end to it.
Swapping the struts out should only take you about 5 to 10 minutes. It is really very easy to do. In the video I do go into further details about what I did to swap it out. It took me longer to film and edit the video than it did to swap the struts.
I hope y'all like the video and if you have any questions or comments please let me know.
