Last week I made a shelf for the kitchen, and two days later I made a table. All from scraps of wood. Granted, they are not the most remarkable works, but they get the job done. My significant other was very happy with the result, as she was going to pay someone to build some. Now there is place to put some stuff ;)
Here is the finished table:
I started off with a pile of wood scraps that were left over from making the shelf. It was just enough wood, exactly enough to get a short table done. Luckily ;)
I had two boards left that were over 4 feet long. I cut then each in half to make a table that would be 2 feet long, then I screwed them together with two smaller pieces running on each side:
I ended up drilling holes before screwing after I cracked one of the boards that was going into hardwood underneath.
At that point, I had the table top done:
Next I had the legs to add. First I had to cut them. But I didn't have the same pieces of wood for the legs, as you can see here. But as long as they were all the same length, I could make table ;) One piece was long enough to cut in half, so at least I had two legs that were the same hehe:
To get the legs on, I needed some extra brace support underneath to screw them to. So with the little pieces of scrap wood I had left, I drilled holes and screwed them on top of the braces that hold the table-top boards together.
Then I was ready to attach the legs. I drilled a hole into the the top support, and one into the bottom brace, then put two screws into each leg to attack them to the table-top:
Table done!
Here is what it looks like in the corner area of the kitchen, just under then shelf I had made:
It's pretty level, despite me cutting everything by hand and with no level. One problem was with the extra support braces being a little too much inward and not flush with the base brace. When I screwed in two legs, the uneven alignment of the braces made the legs tilt inwards and made the legs less parallel and not perfectly even with each other on the floor.
But anyways, job done, table stable for a toaster and toaster over, and SO happy :)
As you saw the scrap food I had at the beginning to work with, I got the job done. This is all the wood I have left over now:
I can't build anything else for now lol :P
Thank you for your time and attention. Peace.

Nicely done. I am envious of those who can do carpentry. Not that I have tried it in 35 years, but I told you of my tool box i made in shop, lol. My grandfather was good at working and building anything he wanted. When he got older he would cruise the yard sales looking for beat up old furniture he could tear apart so he could use the wood for projects.
Thanks. Yeah I can do anything as long as I have the tools for it. Having a professional saw to cut things exactly the same works much better than a hand saw though lol. When I have a car that's a good idea for repurposing things when I build a house for cheap in the future ;)
Nice dude, I have been meaning to posting some of my fun DIY projects I've been doing around the house. Several years ago I made two night stands, a TV stand and a near the door key shelf. One of the biggest things I miss living in a condo or apartment is not having a dedicated workshop space to do these fun crafty things! I'll find some pictures of them and post em up.
Thanks! I used my kitchen to make stuff hehe :P
Finally took a picture of them
I really like it! Never seen this kind of post from you. So you build shelves and tables and still have time to post as much as you do!? Impressive!
Thanks! LOL, yup, I can do many things ;)
good work in addition you saved money you put your own signature a well made table now if you worry about the remains that you left you can start to carve I think a good dolphin or fish that remaining and you continue in an ecological and recycling hahaha
LOL, yup, I could always carve something eh ;)
@krnel thanks for making me remember engineering days. Carpentry was my favourite subject. Joy of creating something for loved once is amazing.
Recently, me and my family members made ganesha statue by Shaddo soil.
I shared photos here, I request you to see them. https://steemit.com/art/@unknownphoton/art-of-celebrating-eco-friendly-ganesh-festival

That's pretty good, nice job ;)
Thanks a lot for those kind words :)
that's awesome! I think you have built enough furniture to justify investing in a level, square and a kreg jig, the small one is pretty cheap. Pilot holes are key when putting most screws in.
Thanks! Yup, drilling holes works very well to not damage the wood. I have a level, but it's at my granmothers 1h drive away and I don't have a car
You could make a toy gun and a detatchable scope with those last pieces of wood. 😁

LOL :P
Oh this would be the kind of side table I'd make for outside next to my BBQ and smoker!
PERFECT!
Now you've given me an idea... thank you!
Welcome ;)
Looks good, I like the rustic look of it.

Thanks. Pretty rustic indeed lol
You have a talent I do not have but wish I did. The table looks very nice and I'm sure it makes your significant other happy. Thanks for sharing the how to. @krnel
Thanks, I'm pretty good with my hands and can do what I set out to do.
Thanks, I'm pretty good

I'm a bot. I detect haiku.
Pretty good a table with a little elbow grease. :-)
Thanks ;) It's not too bad ;)
Nice job. I sure Its was great sense of achievement to use the wood scraps you had. now I sure you could build a spice rack from what's left.
Thanks. With one small piece of wood? I don't think so...
Oh!
great!
adore handmade things and persons who make them;)
I've some of such things at home too;)
