Ducati Monster: Hacks for Storage/luggage

in #diy6 years ago

I like to tinker with things, repurpose items and figure out fun ways of creatively engineering odds and ends together.

After looking for a solution for storage on my Ducati I found tons of cases and broke apart the needs to make my own solution.

The key check points for motorcycle luggage are:

  1. Waterproof/weatherproof
  2. Durability
  3. Lockable/security
  4. Quick release mechanism

The 1510 pelican case meets all of these requirements and matched with a Minn Kota quick release bracket MKA-16-03 AP/PD you can have the same result I have here on my Ducati Monster 1200.

My setup also includes an sw-Motech rack designed for my bike, but you can use any rack that will fit your bike.

This post is mainly a sourcing post to help you find the right pieces to the puzzle and assumes you have the basic knowledge of how to put the pieces together...but if you have any questions on installation please feel free to comment.

Note: you will have to drill into the Minn Kota adapter in order to match the screw holes with your bike’s rack.

Replacing two screws in the back of the bike with eyehole screws can also give you a point to tie-down any luggage you may want to carry. This option does not leave room for a passenger or for your cool tail cowl ☹️

Requirements:
Ducati monster (2014+)
M6 size eyehole screws (look on amazon)
