Growing up with the advent of technology and personal computing, my hero’s were different from those of my parents.
Who were they then?
They were the hero’s of today – Steve Jobs, Elon Musk, Serge Brin – to name a few.
But this had me thinking who are going to be the hero’s of tomorrow. As the world moves towards a rapidly changing technological landscape it is becoming harder for even millennials to keep up.
As the options available to us to voice our thoughts and opinions increase, we also open ourselves to a wider range of perspective and public scrutiny than was ever imaginable by our ancestors.
Therefore, we as millennials need to hold a far greater responsibility with regard to sharing information. Think more about the consequences of what we are sharing and for which target audience. Otherwise the rate of misinformation being spread around the world allow politicians, businessman, and uneducated people to inflict the minds of those readers reading in times of great insecurity.
It is our duty as millennials, to make sure the news and thoughts we spread are given enough thought about its consequences before taking advantage of the ability, now provided by technology, to easily reach millions of people across the world.
Innovations to save the planet are common nowadays as it grew out of need. Need because our predecessors did not realise their earlier inventions which greatly advanced human life – but at what cost.
Today, I urge millennials to not support simply the ‘coolest’ technology but support the purpose behind it. The purpose of anything is of far more value than the means by which it is implemented.
Let’s not create ‘disruptive’ technology but enabling, sustainable and peaceful technology
After all the goal of technology (in my opinion) is not to remove people from their jobs but enable them to do more full filing jobs while the boring becomes autonomous.
