We have the technology in a sense, that if we decided to do it, we could. But not in a sense that it is economically viable. Sure we could build a base on the moon, but for it to be worth anything, should everyone on earth died, it would cost us an insane amount of capital.
For a moon base to sustain a viable population (at least a few thousand) for an indeterminate amount of time, should earth go away, would be an insanely difficult undertaking. I don't think any single nation could do it currently.
I am NOT speaking of the MOON!
I'm talking about hollowing out a Co-orbital asteroid that passes
rilly rilly close to the earth
using ROBOTS.
building a habitat inside
using ROBOTS
and raw material found IN the asteroid
then moving people in
after it's ALL DONE..
Easy peasy. Whether it'd be moon, asteroid or another planet. The problems are largely the same. It is really hard and expensive. We could do it, but not in the current political climate of plans for few years at a time. It would take considerably longer.
Your vacumn cleaner is more computationally powerful than moon landing technology.
so is your thermostat for your central heating and your washing machine.
Let's not even speak of your car..
your point?
what do I say to them?
Nothing.
Willful ignorance on such a scale is impenetrable
Mute them and/or ignore them in any possible way.
Then wash hands as soon as possible...
(use antibacterial)
I was alive when it happened.
I followed it very closely on TV.
How do YOU know what they would look like?
those guys were all highly trained former fighter pilots...
ever met a fighter jock?
There is nothing of the photographic evidence and tv transmissions that couldn't have been faked.
(I have heard government do this from time to time, apparently, to spin a narrative.)
There are quite a few anomalies, like the lack of blast patterns under the moon landing rocket thingy - that's a doozy. I cannot explain that one. How do you explain that one?) - based on there own photographic evidence.
The lack of response and accuracy from the astronauts is also very suspicious, and the threats and violence to journalists asking awkward questions, does not exactly give a positive angle on them ever being there..
...and then there are the pesky van allens, which from how I understand it, could not have been neutralized with the thickness of the rocket walls and materials used ect.
I don't really know massive amounts about it, but the more I discover, the more suspicious I become of it ever happening...
There are hundreds of anomalies with the mars thingy too. (like my use of technical terms? lol)

I'm reminded of an old saying
"the cowards stayed behind, the weak died along the way'

failure of imagination.
a fairly rich rancher from texas could do it.
I think you are underestimating the difficulty of it all. Just sustaining the food production on the moon would be really hard.

Landing on the moon is not a software problem, it's the hardware problem. All the computations can basically be done on a caculator.

and then there's this
oh yeah...we have sattelites in orbit around the moon RIGHT NOW.
that take pictures of what we left in 1969
rebut all of my other points first.
start with the fact that we can actually see the lower stage of the lander still sitting on the moon right now.
one more thing.
In 1969 I was 18 years old....and an avid space nut.
I watched it happen in real time.
