I thought I'd show you all the stages I went through to make my album art in Adobe Illustrator Draw on an Ipad, using my fingers!

in #digitalart7 years ago (edited)

I edited this title because I realized that I made this in Adobe Illustrator Draw on an Ipad, and not in Artrage 4 with a drawing tablet. I forgot that I made this before a friend so kindly gave me his old drawing tablet, and a copy of Artrage 4. Apologies for any confusion!!

I started with an idea of what I wanted the album art to look like. I did my best to draw what I saw in my head. The image was inspired by a song I wrote called, Cannibalize.

Then, I got to work in Artrage 4. Head and heart on plates first. I wasn't completely sure about the color of the plates, but I figured I'd come to a final decision later. I knew I wanted pastel colors to sort of highlight the macabre nature of the picture I was hoping to create, and also of the song I wrote.

Body, spoon and fork, and spurting blood that pops with color, so far so good, but I still needed to add a background color, and the name of my music/art stuff, Vale in the Void. I added the words on a different layer so that I could move and adjust them however I needed without needing to redraw and redraw them. (this was one of my first experiences ever using layers or, honestly, digital art in general)

Okay, I got it looking the way I wanted, mostly. I just sliiiightly changed some of the pastel colors in the hair and blood, and added a different color to the plates. Something still felt off, though.

I thought maybe changing the background color might help?

I didn't like the plate change at all, so I thought close-to-white plates might bring a subtle pop to the picture! I did both a pink background and a blue one because I couldn't decide which I liked better just yet.

I finally felt satisfied, so I made a couple without the words so I could use them as profile pictures on social media websites. I don't really use them for that anymore, but I still liked how they turned out!!

Thanks for reading!! I am still very new to digital art, but I've found it fun and rewarding! :]
