Swiss developer of blockchain solutions DFINITY presented Motoko on Saturday - "a new powerful programming language optimized for the Internet computer", its main product.
According to the publication on the project's website, Motoko is aimed at developers with experience of working with object-oriented and other modern programming languages.
Together with Motoko was published an alpha-version of the DFINITY Canister development kit (SDK), which will simplify the process of creating systems and services for the DFINITY Internet computer.
At the moment the presented tools are based on the closed code, but in the near future the developers promise to translate the compiler and Motoko language into open source standard.
According to the plan of DFINITY, the Internet-computer will become a publicly available platform for calculations based on the open protocol, the principles of which will be similar to TCP. The key difference between the Internet-computer and existing solutions is the ability to run software and services directly on the Internet without the need to use proprietary infrastructure or separate hosting.
DFINITY developers, meanwhile, continue to prepare for the launch of their core network, without specifying specific dates. Last December, the project announced that it would not launch a limited version of the Internet computer in the first quarter of 2019, as originally expected, as this would slow down work on the full version of the product.
