Today's Scripture
So do this, my son, to free yourself, since you have fallen into your neighbor’s hands:
Go—to the point of exhaustion—and give your neighbor no rest! Allow no sleep to your eyes, nor slumber to your eyelids. Free yourself, like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, like a bird from the snare of the fowler.. (Proverbs 6:3-5)

Thoughts for Today

In this generation, our society has become so dependent upon debt and credit cards. We find ourselves being pressured by our surroundings, we would like to buy the car our friends have also, the things we don't need but we are pressured to prove our worth based on the things we own. The truth is no matter how much material we have, we could never use that to define our sense of worth.

Most people find themselves trapped in materialism and end up sending so much money and getting themselves into debts. This practice makes it challenging because some people are so far in debt that they do not see that this creates a compulsion in them. Some people end up thinking that spending can feel that void within and can give them that sense of happiness and satisfaction but no matter how much they spend it is never going to bring that happiness.

The book of Proverbs talks about loans and debts. Once we borrow money from the bank, automatically we are bound to them. As long as we owe someone, we are never free people. That is why the bible told us to have no sleep or slumber till we pay back everything. As long as we owe the bank, we are still a slave to them.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,
Please deliver us from compulsive spending and help us to be a good steward of the money you have entrusted to us. Everything we have on this earth comes from you. Help us to have that heart of gratitude. We ask this in Your Precious Name, Jesus. Amen!
