Today's Scripture
People do not despise a thief if he steals to satisfy his appetite when he is hungry, but if he is caught, he will pay sevenfold; he will give all the goods of his house. (Proverbs 6:30-31)
Thoughts for Today
It is sad if someone has to steal because he has no money to buy food and he needs to become a beggar or steal food. But the law is always the law. It does not have sympathy for someone who breaks the law due to circumstances. It does not have such human understanding.
The law only punishes when it sees injustice, whether or not it was done for a good reason or a bad reason, it does not care. Someone stealing because he has nothing to eat is a sad thing but if he is caught the law punishes him as equivalent to a thief. They do not reduce the penalty because he has nothing to eat and it is a sad thing. In most cases, the law is the law. It has to uphold itself.
So are the laws that surround us. Whether we know it or not, whether we see it or not, we are all under laws. I do not believe that there is such a thing as called "freedom". The law is what brings penalty, punishment, and death.
The book of Proverbs talks a lot about these invisible laws that will affect our life. It shares about what will happen if we choose to break those laws.
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23)
Amen to that! Thanks to Jesus our saviour, we have eternal life through Him.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
We thank you that is through your son Jesus Christ that we now have eternal life. We pray for those who have not yet know you, we pray that they would be brought to their needs to know that there is freedom from that law. We pray that they come to know You, the only true God. We pray for their hearts of repentance and we pray for your mercy to be upon them. We ask this in Your Precious Name, Jesus. Amen!
