Richard Bartle is a British game researcher and professor, born in 1960, who co-created the first MUD in 1978. He developed Bartle's Taxonomy to categorize players' desires into four types.
Bartle’s Taxonomy splits gamers into four groups: Achievers who grind for badges and levels, Explorers who poke around discovering hidden stuff, Socializers who just wanna chat with friends, and Killers who live for owning noobs and stirring up drama. This is relevant because it explains why some people chase clout while others just lurk or troll. The concept is used to design games that keep everyone hooked.

Thinking about this, applied to Hive:
- Less than 1% crazies - stirring up drama
- ~10% achievers - chasing a higher Rep score and other metrics
- ~10% explorers - seeking hidden knowledge
- ~80% socializers - connecting with friends
When building apps, which type of player do you focus on? I'm interested in thoughts from @acidyo, @meno, and @hurtlocker.
And everyone else, what do you think? I turned on CommentRewarder for this post.

In my case, I think I retain a certain degree of madness that I don't want to give up. I also maintain a significant degree of exploration, eager to learn from the experiences of others, and the rest, of course, is a high degree of socialization, as I've always been someone who prioritizes helping others.
I had to read up on this subject and I find the topic fascinating. That said, I don't think I fall into a category per se, at least not absolutely into one. I think however, I lean more towards being an explorer. I love discovery, challenges, and thinking of the "what else can this do" - its my main driver in life, I think.
Maybe an interesting question to put out there is what type of Hivean do we want to dominate our ecosystem. Certainly killers have very little value, and we do have some of those still today, but the rest have pros and cons.
How do you see yourself?
Definitely see myself as Explorer these days. In an earlier stage of life, more Socializer.
This is fascinating, especially when applied to different contexts. In terms of Hive, I blend the Achiever, Explorer, and Socializer into what I do, and have done, on Hive for the past 4+ years. In terms of our 'We Are Alive Tribe' community and project, I'd say it's presently a split between Achiever and Socializer. I'd love more Explorer in the mix, however. 😁🙏💚✨🤙
Hmm I'm not any of these, I only care for competition, ranked games and get to the top of the ladders🤔
Achiever
I'm not a dev, but I'll chime in.
I don't look for drama, but drama seems to find me. Prime example: the spammer in your comments who seems to think I'm part of some conspiracy, but cannot comprehend that downvotes are a natural response to his spam.
I do focus on staking HIVE, but that is not my primary goal here.
I like finding new accounts to follow and authors with whom I can engage, but I admit some frustration in winnowing wheat from chaff. If a dev developed a Hive app to suggest new users based on metrics like mutual follows and shared post tags, that might be neat. I don't want a Web2-style algorithm to curate my feed, but a "hey, this might interest you specifically" tab on PeakD or even a separate site might be useful.
Mainly, I follow a few accounts and chat with specific bloggers these days. Am I in a bit of a rut? Maybe. See above. But it's a comfortable rut.
I guess applied to hive for me it's probably 80% achievers given all my projects and where i see them in the future, 10% social even tho I hope this can raise again later when I have more free time, 9% knowledge and I think we all have at least a 1% crazy in us. :P
