German junior racer Sophia Flörsch is in hospital following a serious crash in Formula 3. A colleague sees the blame on the race director. The International Automobile Federation (FIA) has initiated investigations after the serious accident of the young German pilot Sophia Flörsch at the Formula 3 World Final in Macao. The driver Guan Yu Zhou, teammate of Mick Schumacher, claims to have seen yellow warning lights on the straights just before the incident. The Chinese drove at the time of the accident right behind the 17-year-olds and was able to watch the scene up close.
Sophia was very close to Jehan Daruvala, and when she braked early, she had no time to react, "Zhou said of the accident. "She hit the right rear tire of Jehan's car with her car and was thrown into the air - right into the fence of the Lisboa corner." Flörsch pulled her car away from the track, flew out of the curve, broke through the fence at about 270 kilometers per hour almost unbraked and crashed after colliding with a boundary attachment to the ground.
The driver was immediately rushed to the hospital where a spinal fracture was diagnosed. On Monday she will be operated in Macao. "We have to thank the angels she had with them today," said Flörsch team manager Frits van Amersfoort. Later, the driver also reported herself via Twitter, informed about her health and thanked for the sympathy.
