Diese Raupe der Ampfereule hatte mein Freund Ritschi an einem vertrockneten Stängel Dost (Origanum vulgare) gefunden. Nachdem er sie fotografiert hatte, hat er sie mir freundlicherweise für die Zucht überlassen. Zuhause angekommen reichte ich Ihr eine Vielzahl an Futterplanzen. Sie verschmähte alles und mir blieb nichts übrig, als mich auf die Suche nach dem echten Dost zu machen. Normal ist das überhaupt kein Problem. Aber jetzt im Spätsommer sind fast alle Pflanzen in der Natur vertrocknet. Auf dem Kallmuth bei Homburg kenne ich eine Wiese, auf der ich den Dost großflächig in Erinnerung hatte. Dort wurde ich fündig und Zuhause angekommen, lies sich die Raupe nicht lange bitten und hat sich direkt auf die Blätter gestürzt. Nach wenigen Tagen war es so weit und sie hat sich am Boden im Streu von meinem Futterbehälter verpuppt. Jetzt ruht sie in meiner Raupenkiste und verbringt den langen Winter an einem kühlen Ort. Erst im Frühjahr ab April, kommt sie in mein Arearium (Zuchtbehälter), in dem dann hoffentlich der Falter schlüpft.

My friend Ritschi had found this caterpillar of the dock owl on a dried stalk Oreganum (Origanum vulgare). After he had photographed them, he had kindly given them to me for breeding. Arriving home I handed her a variety of food plants. She spurned everything and so I had no choice but to search for the real Oreganum. Normally this is no problem at all, but now in late summer almost all plants have dried up in nature. On the Kallmuth near Homburg I know a meadow on which I had the Oreganum extensively in memory. There I found it and arrived at home, the caterpillar didn't let me ask for long and threw itself directly on the leaves. After a few days the time had come and she pupated herself on the ground in the litter from my feed container. Now she rests in my caterpillar box and spends the long winter in a cool place. Only in the spring from April she comes into my Arearium (breeding container) where then hopefully the moth hatches.
